The Aklin is a family-owned jewel in the heart of old town Zug. While its menu is steeped in tradition, we were pleased to also find innovative, seasonal dishes. For example, we visited on a warm summer night and enjoyed an appetizer of Maine lobster salad served with fresh papaya and a citrusy vinaigrette. As New Englanders, we know our Maine lobster, and my husband said that this was the best he'd ever tasted. As for me, I don't expect I'll ever find a better beef tartar. It perfectly trimmed, carefully seasoned, and absolutely memorable. The lemon-pepper crusted filet was irresistible, and my husband's boned quail with goose liver stuffing was so delicious, it was gone before I could steal a bite. The wine list is excellent. Since this was our first visit to Switzerland, we chose Swiss wines and were delighted. The service is first-rate, both warm and professional. No matter where you are seated, don't miss the chance to wander through the restaurant—it's over 200 years old!—to admire the charming, varied rooms. We certainly look forward to visiting Zug and The Aklin again.
Schon beim Reinkommen wurden wir warten/stehen gelassen und diese Erfahrung hat sich beim langen Warten auf die Rechnung wiederholt (Dauer Service dazwischen ok)Das Essen war nichts Besonderes. Leider bestand meine grosse Portion Kalbsgeschnetzeltes aus sehr wenig Fleisch (max. 5 Stückchen, die man zwischen vielen Pilzen suchen musste). Der Service hätte etwas aufmerksamer sein können. Leere Getränkeflaschen wurden abgetragen aber nicht nach neuen Getränkewünschen gefragt. Ebenso wurde die Brotnachbestellung ignoriert.
Nous étions 15, dans une salle à part et ils ont géré à la perfection!Repas très bon, service à la hauteur, environnement très agréable (en tous cas dans cette salle à l'entrée à gauche).Dommages que les gens s'accumulent dehors sur les escaliers menant à l'entrée pour fumer, ça dommage un peu l'accueil.A recommander les yeux fermés!
Located near the clocktower, this is one restaurant that you can't miss while in Zug and it does offer some authentic Swiss tastes. There aren't too many options for vegetarians though. Do try the range of cheeses and cakes on the menu!
Diesmal leider kein "ausgezeichnet"! In den wunderschönen Sälen stimmt normalerweise alles. Diesmal leider nicht. Die Salate, wunderschön angerichtet und knackig, wurden statt einmal mit italienischer und einmal mit französischer Salatsauce, zweimal italienisch serviert. Die Brennesselcrème Suppe war ein Gedicht. Der Niderwiler Saibling und die Egli meunière haben in jeder Beziehung überzeugt. Leider kann ich das von meinem Zuger Kalbscordon Bleu Aklin nicht behaupten. Die Panade war zu dick, die ganze Geschichte zu trocken und geschmacklos. Schade. Die Desserts hingegen waren wieder vom Allerfeinsten. Noch etwas hat uns gestört, am Tisch neben uns dinierte ein Paar mit einem Hund. Unsere Freundin ist allergisch auf Hundehaare und konnte deshalb diesen schönen Abend nicht zu 100% geniessen. Wenn man in dieser Liga spielt, sollten solche "fauxpas" verhindert werden.
