Juniko is expensive but without a doubt the best sushi in town, it compares with Yasuda sushi in New York. On weekends you find fresh fish from Japan and the Mediterranean, as well as from Ensenada. There are seatings and you only get tastings menus, all excellent.
I am a Japanese food fan for ever, and I have try it everywhere I travel. And I can assure you Juni-ko is one of the best I have every try, including Japan. Located in Andares, this small restaurant has a huge character and chef...you can find. Every single step of the Omakase is perfectly planned and presented by Dai-san and his staff. Service is impecable, and the food quality and preparation is top of the top. I look forward in being back in my April visit indeed!
I found it a bit adventurous to find the hidden entrance at the back end of another restaurant (La docena) between hanging Jabugo Hams. A server kindly sat us at the Sushi counter. The decor and ambiance did remind me of a typical Japanese...Sushi restaurant in Japan! Very attentive yet discreet service. The highlight of the experience is watching the chefs in front of you prepare your dinner (you can choose between menus). Very refined presentations and lots and lots of flavors. The master Sushi chef is constantly guiding the other chefs and correcting them if he is not happy with the presentation. All in all an experience worth the price.
While in Zapopan, I made reservations with Juni-ko for June The service was excellent, as our waiter was very attentive and service was prompt. The decor was very nice and reminded me of sushi restaurants in Japan. On the day we visited the...temperature in Zapopan was above degrees farenheit, but the temperature inside the restaurant was very cool, which was very welcome as many restaurants in Zapopan lack A/C. We ordered maki, temaki and nigiri. The rice was not properly seasoned and the rice texture was a little to soft. The fish was very fresh which of is a must when consuming raw fish.
This has become one of my favorites (if not ‘the’ favorite). Small place for seats. Real Japanese food. The ‘Kama Toro’ (fatty neck tuna) is superb. Try the eel nigiris with foie gras and truffle oil and grated truffle. All of the fish is...of outstanding flavor and freshness. There are specials some days and you can find Petrossian caviar and Wagyu beef for nigiris. The executive chef Daisuke Maeda knows he has a very piece of Japan here in Guadalajara. I recommend to do reservation because the place is small. Open cuisine for lunch and ‘omakase’ for dinner.
