What User doesn't like about Zanzibar Palace:
The fully restored hotel is very nice. My suite had a big bathtub, but it took the staff many round trips from the kitchen downstairs to fill it up with hot water. The beds are very decorative and noisy. The rooftop terries offers a great restaurant and a view over the city. I would definitely double check before paying these prices to know if they have hot water available right now. This might have been a one time f... View all feedback.
Our main complaint is that we were lead to believe we were renting a suit suitable for 4 people with 3 beds: a king and 2 twins. A perfect arrangement for a family of 4 adults – our grown children traveled with us. In reality we rented one room, one huge, luxurious bathroom, and something like an antechamber – a narrow, pathway leading from the staircase that connected the bedroom and the bathroom. With a window into that same staircase. One of the twin beds was placed in this antechamber, taking up all the space that wasn’t used for walking. The other twin bed? In our bedroom. See photos. It was not too uncomfortable because we were a family; it would have been a lot more uncomfortable if 2 couples decided to rent this “suit” to see what it was like staying in an historic hotel. Oh, and the king size bed wasn’t even a queen – more like full. And it was a bit too high for me, but in fairness I'm really short. Still, our friends in another room had a yet higher bed, and had a step stool provided for them, which I would also appreciate. Another problem is that there was not enough hot water for showers. I understand about boilers, but this is supposed to be a luxurious hotel; they can make sure more than 1 person can take a shower in the morning. Everything else was fine. Beautiful bathroom, beautiful bathtub, full length mirror, good breakfast on premises. I would probably rate this hotel higher if it wasn't supposed to be the best hotel in town.

Zanzibar Palace Hotel is a fantastic boutique Heritage Hotel in the middle of Stone Town. I chose it because of its heritage and boutique features and was very happy on both counts. We spent a lot of our time just walking around this area, exploring, getting lost and finding ourselves again. The room was fantastic very comfortable bedding, excellent air conditioning (very welcome in the humidity and 38C temperature) and a huge bathroom (we took the family room) For a heritage property, I was amazed at the great condition that the hotel was in and how effective the air conditioning was (having lived in the UK and experienced many heritage houses in Europe, I know how hard it is to strike this balance) The rooms were spotlessly clean and the staff are amazing! Winnie, Idi and all the others. Always smiling and super happy to help. Daniela the owner manager was very resourceful, helping us book our covid tests at the best possible location, advice on which ATMs to use, allowing us a slightly later checkout because we had to postpone the early morning dolphin trip to the day of our departure, since we had to do our covid tests the previous day etc. Beach towels were provided to us in a basket on the days that we requested them for visits to Kizimkazi to see the dolphins and Pingwe beach. The food is excellent great omelettes, fresh bread and fresh fruit juice at breakfast were stand outs. We had one meal at the hotel and the chicken curry and chicken spring roll were phenomenal. Points to be Aware of before booking: It is a heritage property and the rooms begin on the first floor with the reception and dining area on the ground floor. The steps are quite steep so anyone with mobility issues or knee and back problems need to be aware of this. Service for meals is slow because it is only for in house guests I would highly recommend that you pre book your meal ahead of time, so the kitchen can be prepared.
read moreWe got a very nice room with a big bathroom and a big bathtub. Very good breakfast and a small bar to chill out in after the day is over. Staff is very friendly and nice and very helpful.
My stay was a sheer delight. The staff are so personable and ready to meet your every need. Management was available to welcome and endure I was having a great stay. I visited all of the rooms as my stay was during low season. Each room carried me back to Morocco or a dream stay with royalty. My only challenge was navigating the stairs. I really wanted to stay roof top I was happy with the lower floor that I could easily navigate. I will not negate my desire for future stay. The location in the heart beat of Stone Town was my treat . People watching and close to local shopping, native life/culture and the beach for those who may like!
