Not like Irish pubs in the U.S.: I went solo travelling solo through Mexico) and was the only person there alone which was a bit awkward. In the U.S. you can usually count on there being other people hanging out at the bar looking to mingle, but here there were groups of people/couples seated at individual tables not approachable. The bartender was friendly though and for a rum and coke it only cost $55 MXN $3)!!
