My wife and I have visited Napa several times and always end our day by enjoying a glass of bubbly at this restaurant. Last week, during a group trip with 6 people, I called ahead to inquire about COVID restrictions. I was informed that we could only purchase a glass or bottle of champagne (except on Mondays) if we participated in a complete tasting. I made a reservation for the following Thursday, which cost $379 (including tax and mandatory 18% gratuity). While we enjoyed the tasting and our waitress did a great job, we were surprised to see another table only enjoying cocktails without having to do a tasting. They arrived after us and were still seated after we left. Upon returning home, I contacted the restaurant's concierge to request a partial reimbursement, but was informed that all customers around us had reservations for a tasting and it was not possible to only purchase single glasses or cocktails without participating. My request for reimbursement was denied. It seems like more of a money issue rather than a COVID protocol. The restaurant is beautiful and the champagne is good, but we are unsure if we will return.
This restaurant is popular among influencers for its unique charm and modern tasting room. I visited on a Monday during a special bubble bar event, where we were served individual dishes instead of a tasting. Reservations are a must as they often have to turn away guests who show up without one. As the winery belongs to Moet Chandon, known for their sparkling wines, it was no surprise that many of the products tasted similar to Dom Perignon. Overall, everything was good, but the Mt Veeder sparkling wines stood out as the best among the selection.
I was really disappointed with our visit here. Upon arrival, the facility is fairly impressive. You will need to walk through the “gift shop” in order to check in. We arrived a few minutes early. On the way to the hostess stand I noticed two beautiful Adirondack chairs overlooking a pretty view. We checked in and were told that we would need to wait until our reservation time. I asked if we could wait by the chairs or at least take a few pictures. I was promptly told no. That area isn’t for your tour. We booked a $50 tasting and it was on a different patio. After a short wait the same women took us to our table. She was a very fake nice. We waited at least 15 mins before our “waiter” greeted us and walked us through the tasting which was served 2 glasses at a time. Our waiter was completely MIA. They gave us 4 fairly small pours. Honestly, it would have been better to just buy a bottle in the “gift shop” and sit outside the entrance or take it back to our hotel. There was zero point in doing a tasting. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.
Never experienced that level of service. Stay away from this winery and don’t become a member. Being a member, I was refused in service despite the fact that they promise to have a special sitting area reserved just for members. Additionally, this winery doesn’t allow kids and they were not transperant about it when I purchased membership. When I asked if they could offer me some small bottles of wine since they cannot accommodate us for free tasting, the answer was “yes, you can buy small bottles” but they don’t offer it for members at no cost. I canceled my membership
