Booked afternoon tea for a 50th birthday. Went for the prosecco option. Food was lovely. Sweet and savoury and actually could not finish so was given a box to take away the leftovers. Lovely room to have the afternoon tea and service was friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend. View all feedback.
What Paul Johansing doesn't like about The Refectory Kitchen & Terrace:
The place wasn’t even ready for our 11.00am booking , 15 20 minutes wait , the food was just Luke warm left overs from breakfast , Hash browns rock hard , bacon and sausage the grease had come to the surface where it had obviously all been left on a hot plate from the breakfast an hour earlier, absolutely awful, for a Hotel of this standard , it should be ashamed of itself . Even the coffee was just warm , the staff... View all feedback.
A great place to have a caffe. good plan and beautifully decorated. in the summer tables are outside and a really nice . also now we had a thick hot suppe and full grain bread. the menu is very diverse and should make everyone happy. toilets are clean and room is pleasant. employees work hard to ensure that customers are satisfied.
My partner and I had a nice dinner here during the stay in the principal hotel that follows. we chose some calamari, truffle and cream cheese filled paprika that were all incredible. for our net we had the ripening eye steak and fish chips that really hit the point and absolutely delicious. our server were all very professional, courteous and extremely friendly and ensured that we had an extraordinary time. fatou unparticular was excellent and cared for the whole evening. we would highly recommend eating here for lunch or dinner. it is directly at the train station and a great environment.
The atmosphere here is the first class as we know and the insight of our waitress. all foods were perfectly cooked when a little slow in the main preparation phase with unexpected portion sizes from which we were notified. the fifth star was lost, because lavender was not mentioned on the desert card with the honey cake and that 's the kind of ingredient they want to know in advance! the freely given congratuity was also on the bill at the point of pressure, although we had. free. one added.
On Tuesday to lunch. not a very large menu, but a fair selection. I had the hutcake and my friend the fishcake. delicious food, but only in a dish. no veggies! price at £15 for a hut cake I must say I expected something nice with him! the waitress was very attentive and came to check us a few times, and also offered to pour more wein for us. this is not a negative comment, as I enjoyed it very, only disappointed that there is no veg.
I've eaten at the Refectory twice recently, and both times really enjoyed the experience. In particular, the aged rib eye steak was delicious (I was told the steak is aged in a room made from Himalayan salt blocks) and the heritage beetroot and goat's cheese salad was also particularly good. Everything is well-priced, and there is a good drinks list (the cocktails in the next door Chapter House bar also also excellent). Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. There is also an outdoor terrace (overlooking York station) which is a great place to sit when the weather is sunny.
