I visited the Indian restaurant "SHAPLA" near Kamoi Station on the Yokohama Line. Unfortunately, the Thai restaurant "Mango Tree Kitchen" at Laraport Yokohama wasn't vegan-friendly, so I ended up finding "SHAPLA" on my way back to the station. #4AJEats The LaLaport Yokohama shopping mall is, as far as we can tell, a wasteland when it comes to veggie food. Thai restaurants are usually pretty understanding, but the one in LaLaport, Mango Tree Kitchen, was unwilling to accommodate us at all. Hangry, we walked back to Kamoi station and stumbled across this place, Shapla. We told the gentleman inside that we’re vegan— we don’t eat meat, or milk, or butter, or anything that comes from an animal. He assured us it was ok and walked us through the menu, showing us what is vegan and what can be veganized. We got a veganized Vegetable Thali— salad, naan, papadum, saffron rice, and two kinds of curry for 1350 yen. Everything was delicious, and there was so much of it. It’s amazing what a good meal can do for one’s spirit The inside of the place is pretty shabby— not much in the way of ambience here. Also, though there was no one smoking while we were there, and the place didn’t smell smoky, the ashtrays on the tables lead me to believe that they allow smoking, which is a huge bummer in our book. But if you’re hangry in Kamoi like we were, the kind folks at Shapla will take care of you.
The restaurant offers options for vegans and clearly labels them. However, it is important to note that some dishes may contain nuts.
