As I was walking across the US I decided to stop in the small town of Yale, Iowa. Luckily for me, the only bar in town was open...Mickeys. For some reason, when I walked in this bar I felt at home. The smell of homemade cooking and beer filled the space as I devoured my taco salad and tater tots. The service was top notch too, Tammie made sure we were taken care of at every moment as my water was never half empty. HI... View all feedback.
What Greg J doesn't like about Just Ethel's:
If you like the smell of a 'greasy spoon ' this is the place for you. One side is a bar grill, the other side is a cafe. We went at noontime in a Saturday, and there was nobody else in the cafe. I had a grilled chicken sandwich, overpriced at $6.50. No chips or slaw with that. My wife had a plain salad which had wilted lettuce. The staff was friendly, even offering to fill our water bottles for our bike ride. We had... View all feedback.
Mickeys in Yale, IA about a 25min drive west from me in Waukee. We biked through Yale, IA during Covid times and, if I recall, it was only the bar side open, and we stopped along the path for a beer. This time, we came for a lunch and it was great! Definitely will be back for a Friday Fish Fry, which seems to be their most popular night of the week. Our server was very kind, I forgot his name but maybe Cory??? Pickle chips: good, piping hot and served with ranch. Cheddar balls: they were good, also piping hot and served with ranch. Grilled chicken salad: this was a very good, simple salad. Shredded cheese, spring mix, good chicken, eggs and tomatoes, it's a very basic salad but plentiful. Very fresh. Taco salad (no shell): also a fresh salad and plentiful, no chintzing here! Tomatoes and onions came on the side (which is why it looks basic in the pic). Philly: very good, hot and no skimping on toppings. Big boy was happy with this sammy. Tenderloin: we liked this one because it wasn't super thin, and wasn't overcooked like so many are. Great flavor, good portion, crinkle fries...who doesn't love a good, hot crinkle fry? Chili and grilled cheese: the only so so dish we had. Chili lacked flavor, no chili powder taste, more like tomato soup. Grilled cheese was warm, not hot, so it was just ok. Homemade chocolate cake: very tasty, not super sweet, and a large slice. Very inexpensive place, nothing fancy but totally worth the drive! We had a great time taking a family drive just to try a new place outside of DSM. We will be back for a Friday fish fry!
This is a new owner and Is completely redecorated. The food is exceptionally good and her carrot cake is the best I have ever eaten! It is worth your time to grab a meal at Mickey's!

Great food, great service and the tots are awesome! Be sure to come if in town! Glad I came
