I was really disappointed last night when I went to a restaurant I have visited a couple of times recently and had enjoyed the food. However, last night we had booked a table for 6 people to celebrate my son's birthday. When we arrived, we were given a limited menu with only 5 or 6 options for starters and mains, and 3 dessert choices. We ordered drinks and were later informed that some items were not available as they had run out of 2 starters and all mains except for burgers or fish and chips. Despite the restaurant being quiet at 7pm, we decided to finish our drinks and go elsewhere. The staff then offered us other off-menu options like chicken, gammon, or lamb rump to convince us to stay. We decided to stay and ordered our food. The starters were good, but the burgers were dry and burnt. The gammon and rump were delicious, but when we tried to order more drinks, they had also run out of several items. To top it off, my husband found a false eyelash folded in his napkin.
Unfortunately, this once wonderful place has taken a turn for the worse. We ordered the Sunday roast, a meal we have enjoyed in the past and often recommended to friends and family. However, the food arrived cold and not as expected - the broccoli was rock hard, the roast potatoes were tough, and the beef was extremely rare and tough. We were unable to cut through it. Despite the empty restaurant, we struggled to find any staff to address our concerns. Eventually, the manager came and offered a free dessert to compensate for our disappointment, which we declined. We left most of the food uneaten and felt that we should not have had to pay for it. The lackluster experience has prompted me to suggest that improvements need to be made before it's too late. Although the location and setting are usually fantastic, they too were lacking on this particular visit, as the restaurant was unusually quiet for a Sunday.
