One of my friends tried to compliment her by mentioning her eyes—just a friendly comment to spark conversation—but she reacted as if he was some unwanted pest. Instead of engaging, she chose to sit at the end of the bar with her friends, laughing and whispering about us as if we were the punchline of a joke.
