Reviews - Jivan's
Reviews summary
Nestled in Wolverhampton, Jivans offers a unique dining experience marked by affordable prices and generous portions. While the decor is simple and could use some modernization, the restaurant compensates with a welcoming atmosphere and attentive service. Diners rave about the flavorful curries, particularly the chicken tikka and balti dishes, but some have noted inconsistencies in spice levels and dish quality in takeout orders. Despite occasional service delays, Jivans remains a top choice for those seeking delicious Indian cuisine without breaking the bank, making it a perfect spot for pre-theater meals or casual dining.

What CurryholicDudley dislikes about Jivan's:
I like different, and whilst I enjoy eating here I have noted that ironically there is a marked similarity in many of the dishes. Jivan 's is the Marmite of Indian restaurants but worth a visit although perhaps not for a special occasion . View all feedback.

Waiter very rude, especially to Asian customers. Very friendly to non Asian customers. They really need to brush up on their customer service.
On a wet Tuesday early evening this rather unprepossessing but locally recommended restaurant was empty when I arrived. The staff were great and welcoming which in an empty restaurant is a hard one to pull off. Chicken sag balti was good. Heat is as you choose and the medium I requested was on the mild side. Peshwari naan was spoiled by a sweet sauce better suited to an ice cream dessert. The value however is terrific. With a couple of poppadoms and a pint of Cobra my bill was less than £14. I would go back.
Looking for new curry house and Javan was unexpected find. Great setting and always served with a smile. Asked for a booth. Food was served quickly. Best Nan for many a year. Jakfreisi dish although taste was not as tangy as expected, little veg and processed chicken. Cheap and cheerful but none the less worth it. Will return
I went to this restaurant about 6 years ago and ohh man how nice it was then but i went last night with my girlfriend and the best part of the meal was my popadoms and mint sauce, the tikka sizzler starter was nice but i have had alot better, my poor bum was numb all night because of the wooden seating area, they need a big refurb and a good clean, the toilet was vile glad i didnt have 2 sit on it and over all just poor quality food
One of the worst indian restaurants in the Midlands. Sticky tables and dated decor. Portions are small to say the least considering the prices they charge. Nearly £10 for a kebab sizzler which is not even the third of the size that local restaurants offer. We are indian ourselves so eat alot of indian food as do our children. Even they were disgusted by the quality of the food. If the hygiene of the seating and bar area is anything to go by then I dread to think what the kitchen is like.

Jivans in Wolverhampton is my go-to spot for curry for a number of reasons. The prices are very reasonable - my friend and I recently dined on rice and curry, shared a naan, and each had a pint of Indian lager for under £10 each! The curry is delicious and served in generous portions in a balti dish. Their chicken tikka sizzler starter is also fantastic at £8.00 (serving 3/4 people). Takeaway options are available as well. Jivans has a high hygiene score of 4 stars on the Wolverhampton council website, beating out more expensive restaurants. While the atmosphere is casual with simple tables, it's the perfect spot for a quick curry after a night of drinks or before a theatre show. Great food, generous portions, and fantastic prices make Jivans my top choice for curry in Wolverhampton.
An excellent little curry house that gives phenomenal value for money. Generous main course portions and sharing platters are the cheapest and amongst the best in town. The fact you can take your own alcohol makes Jivans a very affordable option for the more cash conscious. Small tables are squeezed into a small area which may sound a little too cosy for some people but actually makes the place even more charming. Highly recommended.
When you get a family business right, it goes on an on and at Jivans this is the rule and not the exception. Having being going here for the past four or so years, on and off, I feel compelled to write about it after a recent visit. Tucked away down broad street a place known for its seedy pornography shops and open all hours casino this small balti house has been here for many many years and its not a surprise as to why. The service is bar none- staff are warm and welcoming, and within five minutes of sitting down starters have arrived. The main course is traditional no nonsense indian food tasty, filling and extremely affordable with no compromise on quality. I have eaten at many curry houses Bilash, purbani, indigo, all of which charge more and yet jivans still ranks up there above the rest. A balti will set you back about a fiver, and with popadoms a nan and rice around 7.50 in total. Like most indian restaurants cobra beer is available on tap but you can bring in your own alcohol as well. We always go back here for birthdays and parties because they give us a large table in the room upstairs and the family who run it are always friendly and hospitable almost as if you were guests eating at their house! All in all, Jivans is a friendly, family-run curry house with lovely service, quality food and very reasonable prices. We will be back in the future
Confused? Jivan's isn't fine dining but it is something different, dare I say unique but it won't be to everyone's taste. It is rough around the edges and has cramped adhoc table seating arrangement with out of place Chinese restaurant plates, basic cutlery and dodgy toilets all contained within oppressive questionable decor but contrary to many reviews I actually liked its individuality and our meal although basic but enjoyable. Friendly staff and they will even dice the chicken tikka for you whether you wanted it diced or not. Main course aren't cheap but starters and sundries are reasonable and unusually in a city centre you can take your own alcohol which softens the bill a lot. Give it a go, no dress code required and it won't kill you. Not sure its a 4 stars but you can't say it is average either.

Please Jivans, please reopen. I can't stop thinking about you. Or at the very least, share your recipe for Kashmiri no one does it like you. The best curry I'll never taste again. Miss you so much xoxoxoxoxox
I’ve been coming to Jivan’s for 20 or more years. The food is always excellent and freshly cooked, especially the plain naan which is just divine!
We called in to this restaurant early in the evening before the rush came. The lady who greeted us was very polite and helpful. The 2 currys we chose were cooked to perfection. The Naans were huge and tasty. Decor is cool and a throwback to times gone by. The owner came and chatted us. Over 20 years in business, they must be doing something right.

This place is amazing. The food is beyond comparison and the service is friendly and the atmosphere is nice and relaxing and laid back. Myself and my partner have been going here for years and the waitress always remembers aspects of our order. The only criticism I would add is that the background music playlist has been the same for several years and could do with a change.
Excellent food great prices and really nice friendly staff. Been going here for years. Definitely try it if you haven't been.
Great eating as always! updating: 2/04/2022 is it still open? I really want a curry from here, but the number doesn't work. I'm afraid it can be closed if someone has any information or the correct number, please let me know.
Back to basics restaurant, no fancy LED lighting or marble floors here, just tasty, well cooked dishes. Nice portion sizes. The staff obviously work really hard at busy times so be patient and polite and all good things come to those who wait.
This is a good curry house in the center of wolverhampton. it is also licensed with a good basic selection in the offer. the menu is particularly good in that it is extensive without being overdriven. the food is therefore prepared for a high standard. there is a great selection with vegetarian and vegan folk good for. eating can be ordered with a suitable level of seasoning to meet their requirements. the toilets are clean and well maintained.
