Mama Sita's Cafe - WINLAW

Thought we'd stop for a bite to eat. Service was good and the food was tasty. The only downside, was how grubby the place was; we're talking 'old' dirt. Washing the floors and windows would greatly enhance the restaurant; glad I never saw the kitchen.

First of all the positive - the burgers here were the best we had on holiday (and we had a few). Next the negative - despite the above the service was probably the worst we have had. We were kept waiting for over an hour to get our food (despite several reminders and promises that the food was "on it's way") which was especially frustrating as we had young children with us.If we had been told there would be a delay on food then we would have eaten elsewhere. When asked to speak to the manager we were told he was too busy to speak to anyone as he was cooking food. My wife said she would come back tomorrow to pay the bill in that case - the manager then magically appeared only to make excuses about not being able to get decent staff in the area and as such it was not his fault. He also claimed that we had delayed the serving of our food as we had asked them where it was too often. The waitress that served us was friendly but rushed off her feet. The manager eventually discounted our bill. As mentioned at the beginning the food when it arrived was great but the wait not good at all.

My family absolutely loved the fish and chips. The servings were huge and very tasty. It is a local hangout and you need to be patient...one cook, one counter girl. It took a little while for my take out order, prompted by my family, but it was worth it.

Visited Mama Sita's in August 2017 passing through. Found the service great, but upon making a choice on the menu, the waitress told us that they ran out of some of the food and we had to make other choices. The choice we made was club sandwiches with fries, and I can tell you they were a very large portion, and was very tasty.There were many flies in the restaurant, but that had to be expected in the country.Will we visit again, probably if passing by.

Hungry and on the road near Slocan? This is a great spot to stop. Really good food - generous servings - and the pie speaks for itself. I would stop there again!
