Contribute FeedbackThe Waggon, once a favorite for pub grub, has received mixed reviews lately. While some praise the dog-friendly atmosphere and delicious burgers, others have criticized the menu pricing, food quality, and service. Despite its historic setting and cozy ambiance, inconsistencies in food and service have left some patrons disappointed. It seems this 17th-century pub may have lost some of its former charm, prompting a decline in customer satisfaction. For those willing to take a chance, the unique setting and potential for a great meal may still make The Waggon worth a visit.
We haven't been here for a number of years, so thought that we would give it a try as my husband was given a voucher for his birthday. It was a miserable wet night, but on entering the pub it was a lovely surprise to find the heating on. The pub was lovely and warm and we were made very welcome from the moment we walked in. Our waitress was extremely friendly and accommodating even though she was dashing around greeting people, serving and clearing tables, she really was brilliant. The food was delicious and portions generous. All in all we had a great time and will definitely be going back. Thank you all for such a lovely evening.
A huge thank you for all of the help from the two amazing ladies from lunch time today! I was stranded and in need of help and they were amazing! Whilst waiting to get back on my way I also sampled the pork and apple sauce Yorkshire pudding wrap which fab! Thanks you so much for your help and we will definitely be back for more of a planned visit!!
Never eaten here before and decided to give it a try. So glad I did, what a fantastic menu and very well presented. I love spicy foods, and this must be the only restaurant I have found that serves Jamaican Jerk Chicken absolutely lovely. My wife had a pasta dish which she stated was the best she had tried in ages. Although it’s a 30min drive from where I live, I will without doubt be there again very soon. I didn’t have a dessert as I was full from the main course portion size! With great service and fantastic ales and wine it’s a no brainer. For those of you that know the history of the pub, it is rumoured to be haunted. Well, we were disappointed in that respect, didn’t see anything strange going on ………….
Yes good looking pub .. However it’s locals only .. So don’t expect anything.. Tourists and outsiders ..Stay away
This is a quintessential old country pub full of old artefacts and history dating back to the 1600’s. On a Wednesday evening eleven of us ladies went for a ‘hen party’ meal and requested the separate room (snug) which is just off the main eating area. It was just the right size for our group and the staff had set it up so that we were all seated round one table and could chat to each other easily. This wasn’t a raucous hen night but a meal with a few games and quizzes. This room was perfect as we could laugh away without interfering with other diners (the pub was full of diners) and was private enough for us without feeling like we were tucked away from the rest of the pub and attention of the staff, all of who were exceptional in attending to us and were polite, professional and friendly but Steph was our main host and is an absolute credit to the pub. A few had starters, the cheesy bites were lush and I’m told so were the others. The mains were all complimented, particularly the salmon, linguine and hunters chicken. We were all too full for desert lol. We all felt happy, relaxed and comfortable in this room and were looked after all the time we were there. I highly recommend booking this room for a group meal. The prices of the meals were not extortionate were affordable and what you’d expect to pay for a decent pub meal. We split the bill between us, paying £27.00 each which included a decent tip (we bought bottles of Prosecco separately so not included in the meal) We all enjoyed it so much we said we will have to come back and do it again. I recommend booking in advance as the pub is popular for food and gets booked so walk ins may find there are no tables available. I also highly recommend their carvery on a Sunday as you will not get a better Sunday roast. Children are welcome at all times, as are dogs.
