Sara's of Willunga

We had a wonderful Sunday lunch at a stunning historic building. The flavors in all of our dishes were amazing, and the desserts were delicious. The coffee was smooth and the staff was friendly and attentive. A special thank you to the staff for staying late on a Sunday to help us recover our lost phone long after closing time.

Yes this is a cafe/ restaurant but there are also two great cottages at the rear of the property. We stayed on a recent Saturday night and found Abbie to be a great host. The cottages are modern and comfortable, bigger than the average hotel room with largish lounge/ bed sitting area, small dining area , kitchenette, seperate toilet and bathroom. The cottages have a fromt and back verandah with table and chairs on both, although the back verandah faces nothing at present. The furniture is simple but comfortable and we spent a very nice , quiet night there.We ate breakfast in Sara's the next morning, the old church conversion is quaint and cosy and the food was excellent.

Generous serves at this new cafe. Service was friendly, wine list quite extensive if you're happy to buy a bottle, and features a lot of local wines. Meals were yummy and reasonably priced. Venue is more relaxed in style than the previous one at this site and shows promise to be a regular favorite.

We stopped in or a Saturday night dinner and ordered a variety of entrees and mains including garlic bread, salad, pasta, fish and pizza.The service was very good and very friendly.The surrounds are interesting as the building was a small church. You can sitoutside too.The food was very good, with very generous portion sizes. The salad was very large and very fresh as it had just been put together as salad should be. The entree pasta dish was very tasty and really a meal in itself. The pizzas were really good too as was the fish.As you would expect in a town surounded by vineyards, the wine list was interesting with many local wines on offer.Would definetly comeback. They do takeaway too.

We arrived on opening day for lunch and what a surprise ... no chaos, just great food and the friendliest of service, in an amazing old stone building that was once a church. Couldn't resist ordering the Cataplana Seafood, a popular Portugese dish. It came in a white bowl brimming with fresh calamari, prawns, fish of the day (monk fish), cockles,mussels and chorizo in a rich and delicious tomato based sauce. It was amazing, included garlic bread to mop up the sauce and such great value. As we left we heard other diners passing on enthusiastic praise for the Kataifi prawns, trio of dips and the leek and roasted tomato tart. Willunga has another restaurant gem.
