Ragusa Restaurant

Ragusa Restaurant
4.6 / 5 (19 reviews)

Description

Ragusa, a popular Croatian restaurant in Melbourne's Williamstown, seems to have undergone a decline in recent visits. Customers have noted long wait times for meals, smaller portion sizes compared to previous visits, and high prices that don't match the quality of the food. Despite some inconsistencies, Ragusa still receives praise for its beautifully cooked dishes, extensive wine list, and warm, welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant's seafood options stand out, particularly the mussels, calamari, and fish stew. Even with some disappointing experiences, many customers still appreciate Ragusa's dedication to serving delicious Croatian food in a charming setting.

It's my favourite local restaurant. I'm fussy, I love food that is simple, fresh and delicious. I go back to Ragusa regularly because it ticks those three boxes. Ragusa's menu draws from Croatian cuisine with lots of seafood dishes as well as some traditional Croatian favourites. I go there for the seafood. Here's my top three:Fresh mussels cooked in a spicy tomato broth accompanied by wood fired flat bread to dip into the garlicky soup. Comes as an entree or main. Calamari, probably the best in Melbourne, finely sliced, pan fried tossed with red onion, capers and herbs. Again, comes as an entree or main.Fish stew, (yes, I order this dish most visits), a gorgeous mix of fresh seafood in a richly flavoured tomato broth full of flavour and texture. Ragusa make their own wee bread rolls which come to the table warm and ready to dip into said sauce. The wine list is larger than you might expect and has by the glass options. I'm usually enjoying the meal so much that I throw caution to the wind and order a bottle of my favourite Chardonnay.I've never made it to desert, preferring to indulge in an entree and a main or two entrees. It is a handsome restaurant in an old church but the space isn't cavernous. White walls, polished boards, well spaced tables with fresh linen and nice glasses make it stand out from most restaurants in the area. Acoustics can be problematic on busy nights.Service is friendly and professional.I love it!
