**A Farewell to Rodney's: A Beloved Culinary Gem in Willcox, AZ**
Rodney's, once a cherished independent eatery in Willcox, has sadly closed its doors, leaving behind fond memories of hearty, home-cooked meals. Known for its flavorful Cajun dishes and welcoming atmosphere, the restaurant was a favorite for locals and travelers alike. Diners praised Rodney's hospitality and his carefully crafted dishes, especially the fish Creole and shrimp, served in a quaint, communal setting. While the eatery's charm and character will be missed, Rodney’s friendly demeanor and culinary prowess will be remembered fondly by those who experienced the warmth of his kitchen. A true community treasure has been lost.

They are currently closed, but when you would order your meal at Rodney's Shack, he would serve it to you next door at the saloon or in another area of his shack that features several long family-style tables covered with plastic tablecloths. This dining area may not look like it has been inspected by the health department in years, but it had a lot of charm, and the food isn't actually prepared there. Rodney himself is a true gem—a kind and gentle soul who was a delight to talk to. If the dining area makes you uneasy, there are a couple of outdoor tables, and Railroad Park is just across the street. My meal came on a paper plate, and it was outstanding—fresh in every way, affordable, and made with great care.
CLOSED DOWN I had the pleasure of experiencing Rodney's cooking while attending the Rex Allen Days, which featured the gun show, rodeo, and The Wild Bunch Film Festival. It's disheartening to see a vacant lot where the restaurant used to be, as it has officially closed its doors. I always looked forward to stopping by and chatting with Rodney, who was a beloved figure in the community and full of knowledge. I truly miss his unique cooking style and delicious food. This was one of those charming little spots you had to visit at least once and appreciate for what it was. I'm certain he will be greatly missed.
I dined there again yesterday and had the fish creole. You get three generous pieces of fish, along with rice, beans, green beans, and tomatoes. The herb and spice blend he makes is absolutely delicious. Plus, he's a really nice guy. He cooks the catfish to just the right level, and the coating is very light. It's the only place I eat in Willcox.
I think it's mainly Rodney running things here, and he's very friendly. It's a charming little place that makes you feel right at home.
This place is really a gem. So glad we stumbled upon it! Prices were pretty low, food was awesome! The bbq was delicious, the gumbo was amazing! My daughter got the catfish and cleaned her plate. The atmosphere is a little off-beat.. but not bad... It feels a lot like having a picnic in a friends back yard. We had some bees harass us for our sodas, but it was a really great meal. My family of 5 ate large meals all for under $40
