Sorry to be negative. Prices are steep. $14.00 for a small portion quiche and 1/4 cup fruit. Slow service, waitress made it clear she did not want to be there. One good thing: Nicely decorated, but will not return.
Imogene's is a quaint little home accessory shop near Wildwood. There is also a small tea room in the back that serves lunch with a small private dining area. My friend G and I decided to take a little break and try it. I'm glad we did. We both chose the tuna salad salad with a basil dressing. The tuna salad was delicious and the dressing was quite tasty. Both of us were happy when we decided that a dessert was in order. We both ordered the creme brûlée with berries. It was decadently delicious. Would I come back here? Yes, if I'm in the area.
I have to wonder where all of the great reviews on YELP come from, perhaps everyone who reviewed Imogene's all had the same Greek quiche over which more than one person raved. Knowing for a while that I was going to be visiting Imogene's, I was all prepared to order that quiche. Unfortunately, it was not the quiche of the day, today's offering was a Bacon Quiche, but with a large number of us in tow, all arriving just minutes after opening, we were told that the quiche wasn't available and wouldn't be for 20 minutes. Had I known at the time that it would be 35 minutes before we actually had food in front of us, I would have held out for the quiche, the hope being, that it was as good as the Greek. Instead I opted for one of the daily specials, the crab cake that, it turned out, was so special that they only had six on hand. I ordered one of them and a cup of the soup du jour, the lobster bisque. As I mentioned, it was quite a wait before we were served. This was not a problem, really, because we had plenty of time to converse and were in no hurry. Our waitress, Cindy, was a gem. Efficient and pleasant, that woman never stopped moving from the time we arrived. The bisque arrived first, minutes later the crab cake was served. The bisque was flavorful, but it would have been nice if it had actually contained lobster. Even a piece would have been appreciated. The strongest taste that was evident in the rich, creamy broth was Sherry. Two of us ordered the bisque, and not a single shred of lobster was to be found in either of our bowls. It was topped with a sprinkling of chopped scallions and two small shrimp. It would have been more honest to list this as lobster FLAVORED bisque rather than lobster bisque, or even Shrimp Bisque as it did contain shrimp in the garnish. The crab cake was adequate, but served cold. It was topped with a flavorful relish of finely diced peppers and halved cherry tomatoes. It was good and the crab cake was good, but it was not great, nor was it special in any way. I try to order things that I would not normally make at home when dining out, but I have to say that I was seriously eyeballing the BLT that was served to someone at the end of our table after taking a bite of my cold crab. The restaurant is attractive and welcoming, the service was good, the shop varied and fun to browse. Will I go back? No.
I came to purchase various items and was pleased to find exceptional quality throughout, particularly in the custom-designed fabrics and furniture. The manager and staff were incredibly friendly and eager to help, making my shopping experience even more enjoyable. Shopping at Imogene's while enjoying food from the cozy restaurant is truly a delightful experience. The restaurant is open from 11 AM to 2:30 PM, Tuesday through Saturday, while the design studio and gift shop are open daily. Though I didn't dine at the restaurant on this visit, I look forward to returning with friends for lunch. Thank you, Clarice, for prioritizing excellent customer service, and a special thanks to Margaret, whose delightful assistance made my visit extra special. I will definitely be back! Best, Gloria
