What soyalexis doesn't like about River Cafe:
Empty but service was very slow. A substantial breakfast that was ok. Wish people would stop deep frying breakfast ingredients. The biggest let down was seeing a beautiful coffee machine and then they give us instant coffee. View all feedback.
My family and I recently visited River Cafe where I ordered an omelette with a side salad and chips for €13.90, my husband had a veggie breakfast with tea for €11, my daughter got a kids meal with egg, beans, chips, and a drink for €8.90, and my son had a breakfast combo with a hash brown, sausage, and scrambled eggs. I also purchased a can of coke and an apple pie for €5.95. To our surprise, the bill came to a total of €54 and we were only given a cash payment option without a receipt. Although the staff was friendly, we felt significantly overcharged for our meal. This unexpected expense was a disappointment, especially as we were on holiday in Wicklow and returning home to Galway with a long drive ahead of us. Paying €54 for brunch, including two kids meals, was definitely excessive.
A wonderful place to stop, with beautiful weather and a stunning view overlooking the river with ducks, geese, and swans. A perfect little spot.
I spent the weekend in Arklow and enjoyed dining outside in the rare glorious sunshine. The extensive menu offered plenty of options for vegetarians. Instead of a full breakfast, the friendly server asked me what I wanted and put together a customized meal for me. My dining companion had a scone and a hot chocolate. This was our second visit to the restaurant, and the server remembered that my friend did not like marshmallows in her hot chocolate, a small but thoughtful gesture. We both had delicious breakfasts and I look forward to trying the omelette next time as it looks amazing. Sitting in the sunshine, enjoying a coffee was a lovely way to spend a relaxing hour or two.

This place is I guess what would be called a greasy spoon but because it looks a tad nicer they have notions about themselves. Food is really greasy and really overpriced. You'd be better off going to a pub or the Blue Café or somewhere for lunch or breakfast. Even Eddie Rockets breakfast is nicer/more reasonable across the bridge and waitress was rude.
