I had booked a table for 2, turned up and the place was closed. Emailed the restaurant and got a reply saying they were currently closed due to unforseen circumstances. Lodged 5 enquiries with Living Social (Voucher purchased) finally got a response today saying I didn't complain within the validity period, nothing they can do OMG. I tried 5 times since the booking date of 20th November 2016.

The restaurant has a very peaceful atmosphere, and the food and service are excellent. The prawn bruschetta is outstanding, and the pork belly on scallops is delightful.

I went to this restaurant for a birthday dinner. The service was quick and the staff were friendly. Each person at our table ordered a different meal, and all of them were delicious, well-prepared, and beautifully presented. The dessert was also outstanding! The ambiance was nice, although a little quiet (possibly because we were there early in the evening).

So....lovely, happy staff. TERRIBLE MANAGEMENT. Very misleading website. Time to hand the keys over to someone who wants to put some effort in. Read on for the whole story.I visited Rocksalt as part of a group of 8 for a special occasion Sunday lunch. The website read well - we were set for an afternoon of seafood, cocktails, and live music. At least, we through we were. I must say the food was ok (but there is so much better available in Newcastle) but food presented on tiles..really? There are so many 'on trend' options to present your food. A laundry tile just didn't impress me. Only two options from the white wine list, we were told on arrival, were available. We chose one, and when we tried to reorder a second bottle were told there was none left. We thought it was time to shift to cocktails, but there was no list in the menu. Apparently it had been removed as the restaurant was understaffed the day prior. The first round of cocktails were nice. We then tried a second, but even the staff agreed that they were undrinkable. The staff were lovely, by the way, trying to make the most of a restaurant that clearly has owners who have lost their drive. We were one of only three tables there throughout the whole period...which may have been why the live music, as advertised on the website, was nowhere to be heard. Now my favourite part of the story.. We brought a lovely, expensive cake with us, which we only consumed half of. The lovely staff offered for us to leave it in the cool room until the following day. We confirmed that the restaurant opened at midday, so off we went. Monday at noon...restaurant not open, cake under siege. We went back a little later...still not open. We emailed and explained the situation ...owner wrote back that they don't open Monday or Tuesday. No apology, nothing. Unbelievable, and we had spent a tidy sum at her establishment. More than anyone else that day, I'm sure. Do yourself a favour, don't book this place!

The food was fantastic and the service was top-notch. The restaurant is located in a peaceful spot by the water, making it a great place to meet up with friends and have a chat.
