If you have fond memories of Mexican Inn on the East Side, you'll definitely appreciate Taco Dive. The food is fantastic! I recommend asking them not to fry the tacos too much. If you're a fan of hard-shell tacos, this is the perfect spot for you. The decor is really cool, and Whiting is a nice place to explore—plus, Horseshoe is nearby. Interestingly, their menu mirrors that of Mexican Inn. I've heard that the owner's nephew purchased the rights to the recipes.
The food is delicious, but the prices are excessively high for what you receive. I really hope they can adjust the pricing to be more reasonable. The dish I ordered was the Combination, which includes two beef tacos, a chicken soft taco with cheese, beans, rice, and a small salad, all for $13.00. After adding a Dos Equis beer, my total came to nearly $20.00. Honestly, I could easily eat more than double this amount. The tacos used to be bigger, too. I suggest giving it a try, but be prepared to spend some money.
This was my first visit to this restaurant, and it's run by the same people who owned the Mexican Inn in South Chicago, a place I used to frequent with my grandmother when I was a child. The food is just as delicious as I remembered! The owner was very welcoming, and the charming cook in the back reminded me of my own grandmother. The atmosphere here is fantastic. They don't serve liquor yet, but they offer a wide selection of beers, and they even have the classic Mexican Coca-Cola made with real sugar. This place is definitely worth checking out—it's located right on the corner with easy access.
I ordered a taco special for two which included 6 tacos, 2 sides and two cokes. I ordered the chicken tacos and the tortillas were crispy right on point; the chicken was very delicious they actually season it.???? My side was a half beans and half ricebowl. the meal is very filling and for only $25 its a deal! The only thing missing would be an option for a spicy salsa. Theservice there is excellent as well it was my first time there and Dave at the counter was super friendly and told me about thespecials . Which was great! he noticed it was my first time there and made it easy for me to place an order. It was anexcellent experience and I will definitely be going back.
Way over-priced for what you get. Basic tacos on paper boats and dry beans in styrofoam. I expected it to be much better based on how flashy the place is. I ordered a drink with my food (even my friends heard me order it. and she forgot to add it, sowhen I asked her for my drink she just said I never ordered a drink instead of saying something like ?sorry, let me charge youfor one.? Can get better tacos at a food truck.
