We stopped at 12am on our way home from Vermont and found the perfect restaurant. Our group of eight was served by a waiter who also happened to be our cook. The food was delicious! View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Whately Diner:
The food is delicious at best. However, it is concerning that the employees are noisy, smoke, and go straight into the kitchen without washing their hands. The restaurant is large and has a spooky atmosphere. After a long day on the road, all I want to say is to enjoy a good meal and drive safely. View all feedback.
I was at this restaurant last weekend and the food was awful! The staff were shouting insults at each other, using foul language as if it were funny. I understand it's a truck stop, but they should still have basic manners and standards. The food should be served at the same temperature.
It is possible that the establishment is now known as Caldwell Truck Stop Diner.
As a food enthusiast and avid critic, I must say that this restaurant serves the best homemade corned beef hash I have ever tasted! It had more meat than hash and was perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of pepper. Initially, I thought $12 for the plate was a bit expensive, but after the first bite of that delicious corned beef, I knew it was worth every penny. The chef even managed to make it crispy on the outside. Kudos to the chef! This meal was exactly what I needed to fuel up for another 250 miles on the road.
The food is barely acceptable. It is concerning that the staff are loud and smoke, then proceed directly to the kitchen without washing their hands. The atmosphere is off-putting and unsettling. I am exhausted from traveling and simply want to have a peaceful breakfast without being approached.
This cozy little spot is perfect for breakfast (and more). Located near a highway, it offers all the classic breakfast options you could ask for and they were all delicious. I particularly enjoyed their homemade Corned Beef Hash, and decided to try the Eggs Whately (their take on Corned Beef Hash Eggs Benedict) which was excellent. The prices were very reasonable and the vintage jukebox at each table, where you could request a song for just 50 cents, added a fun touch. It appears they also have options beyond brunch. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!
