What Maxine A dislikes about Water Edge:
Pretty grounds, nice rooms. Focus is on weddings- I.e. all shops geared to wedding party. Sunday brunch extensive and expensive. Spa experience (massage) mediocre. View all feedback.

And more expensive because of the holiday. Carol, one of the employees at the restaurant podium would benefit from refresher in pleasantness. Notice the tables in the main dining room no longer have table cloths. Silverware is not replaced after repeated trips to the buffet. Seems the waitress had too many tables to cover so when something was needed, the guest got up from the table to locate her and request what was needed. The buffet offerings did not match the published Easter menu. No where in sight was a whole smoked salmon nor were crepes flambéed with cordial of choice. There was no cordial to choose! Shrimp was watery and not crisp, the English muffin under the eggs Benedict were limp because not toasted, the lamb was dry, chafing dish entrees were cold, and platters were not replenished in a timely basis. And the Easter Bunny left his post 15 minutes early as noted by one of the children. Plans for next year do not include Water's Edge. Yours might not either.

The only reason I gave it a 2 instead of 1 is because the views are stunning ! My biggest complaint is OMG the noise !!! You CANT sleep ! Beware if there is an any event going on because doors will be slamming , people will be screaming ...all at 11pm . I called the front desk to file a complaint twice. Although it settled down after a while , this continued until 1-2am and if your on the bottom floor you can hear everyone walking above you . Just awful !We also ate at DATILLO restaurant : food is a 5-6/10. We had the seafood risotto and it was mainly risotto with minimal seafood and my sons cheeseburger was like rubber. I will say the crab cake was good and so was my merlot. Service was subpar ; typically with fine dining I don 't have to pour my own wine from the bottle and ask for table bread.I have lived in Connecticut for 40 years and have never stayed at this resort . I can confidently say that I will never come back here again unless it 's with friends for lunch on a water for the view and just drinks . I

Went last weekend for a facial in the spa with a close girlfriend. First visit to the spa but I have been to the property prior for a wedding and an overnight stay. The staff was kind, professional, welcoming understanding and which is why there is a 2 star rating versus 1. Facial received was the Vit C facial. You can tell as soon as the products are on put on your face that they are not great quality. I have had many facials and these products (unfortunately I didn't catch the name of the product line) are absolutely subpar. You didn't even feel them on your face afterwards like the soft, glowing feel you have after a facial. The facial itself was 50 minutes. It was just shy of $190 with taxes and automatic gratuity added. Expectations at a resort and spa at that price point are much higher than what was received. The esthetician was very kind and sweet but that's all of the positives from the 50 minutes. You expect you will pay more at a resort and spa but this was likely one of the worst (if not the worst) facial I have ever received. When asked at checkout about the services my friend was very honest. I initially felt reserved on sharing my thoughts however then decided it was best to provide constructive feedback. The gal checking us out was very appreciative of our honest feedback and was professional in seeking a better understanding of what could have been improved. She provided a few vouchers for the restaurants on site and a full sized complimentary hand cream. None of that was necessary but the gesture was appreciated. Unfortunately, the restaurant was even more of a fail than the facial experience. I went yesterday to a private esthetician where I received almost 2 hours of services, a great facial, a wonderful hydrating jelly mask, red light therapy, dermaplaning of entire face and eyelash tinting for $40 more than the facial services at Waters Edge. This facial was amazing not to mention all of the additional services. The property is beautiful, the staff was very accommodating but I would not even consider going back to the spa or the restaurant.

Beautiful water-front setting, but spectacularly apathetic, slow service on all fronts--front desk, hostess, valets. Room is bland, with little decor or charm, corporate style, and overlooks the jacuzzi. We asked for a different room saying it was a seventieth birthday and a clerk said nothing was available and we'd have to pay $100 more for an ocean view. (We'd been told the resort wasn't full. Basically, we were treated like poor relations after paying $450 on a Tuesday for a standard room. I said we weren't having a very good experience so far. Food at Sunset Grill was adequate, but very slow coming out. View was gorgeous and live music was enjoyable. And sweet waiter brought cake to celebrate my friend's birthday at least. Overall, very disappointing experience.
