We came for a birthday celebration, and we delighted with the entire experience. The venue was cozy/intimate, the food was delectable, the service was attentive and helpful and the wine was smoky and lush and went perfectly with our meals. We tried the salmon appetizer, the octopus, the trout and the beef. Serving sizes were the right size to allow sampling of the 4 dishes between the 2 of us (we had been told the portions were a bit smaller - tapas style, which meant we could try more items and not feel full.) Everything was well-prepared and I particularly loved the beef and the accompaniments that went with this choice. We finished it all off with a mouth-watering chocolate soufflé that was served fresh/warm and perfect for sharing. We both felt that we'd had a very special meal/evening for a very reasonable price.Truly recommended.
Be prepared: the restaurant is small and so are the portions. The food and service was excellent. We decided to try Leslietown and I made a 6pm reservation (they open at 6pm.) I was glad I made the reservation as we counted only 20 seats and most had reserved signs when we arrived just before 6.They do warn you that the portions are small and recommend 2 to 3 per person. We started with oysters and a glass of crement. Simple and delicious. I then followed with the octopus main and a strip loin main. Both fabulous. We then decided to share the Cornish hen. Also very tasty. When we return we will plan to order 3 plates per person (think of them like French Tapas.).We will return.
I had been looking forward to trying this restaurant - overall I was disappointed.Starting with the positives: the service was pleasant, and the place has a nice ambience with good music. The reservation name on the table is a cute touch. But the food was not good. I had the oysters, which tasted a bit off, followed by the cassoulet. I'm not sure what was going on in that cassoulet. It was too oily and left my stomach unsettled. Maybe my French food standards are too high, but this is not what it should taste like.My wife's main complaint was the portion size. She ordered the fish, which she said was good - but the portion was tiny. Her pear salad appetizer was also small (same size as fish dish) and she did not like the flavour combination. So overall a disappointment. i had high hopes.
This restaurant is very small but beautiful. Reservations are highly recommended as we tried a couple of times to just 'try our luck" but were disappointed. The food portions are small but we didn't leave hungry. I recommend an appetizer before dinner though and I don't usually eat an appetizer at most restaurants. Everything we ate was amazing. The only negative is the price of a bottle of wine. I think the cheapest wine was $70 which is a bit pricey. The night we went there wasn't a bottle of wine at any table. People ordered a glass only. Not sure why they can't have a reasonably priced wine in the 35 - 40 price range. Doesn't make sense that they can't offer wine at that price.
Had the 3 course tasting menu, incredible value and quality. Definitely will return. One of the best meals I've had at a restaurant this year. Give it a try well worth it.
