Right off the bat, one of the best dining experiences I?ve ever had! Incredibly delicious food served in very generous portions. From the calamari fritti to the chicken parmigiana, everything was superb. Very intimate setting with a ?come as you are? vibe which in my opinion, makes for a great atmosphere. View all feedback.
What Justin C doesn't like about Dan Tana's:
The 50yo female hostess on the night I went was rude and snobbish. The food was pretty good for LA Italian food but I wasn’t impressed. Will admit the salads looked really good but I didn’t try. View all feedback.
The best butterfly lamb chops and Beckerman potatoes! Caeser Salad and New York Steak... You can't beat it! Ask for Neno or Mate in the kitchen.
This restaurant is marvelous. I went with my wife and son a few weeks ago (two nights in a row! having gone last summer and we simply love it! Going to Dan Tana's is like being welcomed home. The atmosphere is both unpretentious and fun, and the food is darned fantastic too. If you want a stuffy, marble, Beverly Hills dining experience, this is not the place for you, but, if you want an authentic classic vintage Hollywood experience then this certainly IS the place for you! Leave your delusions of grandeur at the door and get ready to be welcomed with warmth, kindness and heavenly Italian food. Elizabeth, Igor, and Jose are just the best and whenever I am next in LA I will be going back. We also went to Musso Frank's and Craig's on the trip, but this is by far the best. Once you visit your new friends (a.k.a. the staff at Dan Tana's you will certainly go back! Thanks to all the wonderful staff. You made my family so very happy! We will see you all soon!
Ah, the hallowed halls of the famous Dan Tana 's... not to be confused with Santana 's There were no guitar solos or Scientology leaflets anywhere. Ok, back to the review. We were a group of 10 savage Vikings who came ashore to... wait... no, we were a group of 10 there to celebrate a birthday. Approximately age of us was 50 years old. Still attractive... move a bit slower. Anyway, I 'll start with our waiter. His name was Chip and he was a knowledgeable hoot. Really funny. Great energy. An asset. Keep him. Even the other table staff were great. Efficient. Moved like ninjas. Ok, on to the food. I had never been there before and what I 'm about to tell you is that I am not psychic. When we walked in and I saw the red checkered tablecloths on the table I was certain we would be blessed with some table bread and little aluminum wrapped pats of butter. I grew up in NY so this is what you are taught in schools. Not a lie. I personally had a simple penne aribiatta. It was really good and actually had some kick. Most restaurants lie about this. Not DT 's. Also ordered by the table was the veal parmigiana, the chicken parmigiana, spaghetti, Caesar salad, beef ravioli and the fried calamari. Surprisingly, it 's not annoying to hear Ooh... yum...man this is good...mmmmmm.... This is yummy '! from 9 other people talking at the same time. Great portion sizes as well. The drinks were also pretty stiff. My mother in law was sufficiently tipsy and was a darling the entire time. She didn 't punch anyone. So yes, Dan Tana 's... I like you. We like you. We will be in you again. Thanks for a good time!
Make a reservation in advance. They don't do Open Table or anything else online so you will have to use that thing in your hand to make an actual phone call to a real person. REQUEST TO SIT INSIDE. If you are seated on the patio, you might as well dine elsewhere. You are coming for the experience, not the food. Good luck getting seated in the main room (that is for the A listers or regulars) or at the tiny bar which fills up the minute the restaurant opens. But do ask to be seated somewhere inside. This is a fun restaurant. It is loud and casual. It is filled with long-time regulars who feel perfectly comfortable hugging the servers, and tourists. That's about it. I saw many people dressed in shorts, t-shirts, and hats. That's not how I would dress at a restaurant like this (you don't have to dress up) but you can come as you like. Is the food amazing? No, it is not. Are the portions massive? Yes, they are. Get the chicken parmesan and split it (for an extra $10) with your dining companion. It is massive and has enough melted cheese to satisfy you for weeks. It is a perfectly fine, good dish. It comes with a big side of spaghetti in meat sauce. The garlic cheese bread is good, too. It is listed as an appetizer but you get complimentary bread at the start of your meal anyway, so order the garlic cheese bread to accompany your entree so you can dip it into your sauce. Martinis are well-made here. They are good and strong. My first one had two olives and the second had one. Was it something I said? The servers can seem gruff but really, they are grizzlies on the outside and teddies on the inside. Don't be so sensitive. Show them some humor and you will be fine. This is an old school place that oozes charm. The food isn't 5-star but you should still come for the fun, lively scene.
Dan Tana is the best Italian restaurant in LA! I'm convinced it's not 5 stars on yelp for people to gatekeep (boooo) Our waiter Eeyore was absolutely a gem and made us feel right at home! He was soooo funny and made the experience! My favorite dishes were the Caesar salad, fried zucchini, garlic bread, NY steak and broccoli! The martinis were amazing too! Only pro tip would be that the valet can get full so go early to snag yourself a spot! Amazing amazing amazing and thanks for hospitality
