Dining experience was fine but the food stood out! I got two salmon based rolls and they were very filling. I was shocked because usually I will want another roll but they were the perfect amount of food. I would never say this place is cheap but it's priced fairly and affordable/what you'd expect from a sushi place. The fish was fresh and I personally had no complaints. Would 100% come back! What Bonnie C doesn't like about Daiko Japanese Restaurant Jerry-san's Sushi Bar:
This place did not live up to it's reviews. I got the sushi and sashimi lunch combo and the sushi itself was definitely not fresh. Everything felt like they were at least a day old. I was very very disappointed by the size of the sashimi that came with it! Please see pictures to see exactly what I mean. They were way smaller than what I am used to. I definitely won't be coming back simply because of the poor quality... View all feedback.
11.19.21 They've come full circle. They're back to the greatness that I remember and why I started going here a while back. They're always so kind friendly whenever you're here and also always on the phone when calling in an order for pick up. They are really the nicest people working here. The restaurant itself is always very clean. The one not so good thing that I hear from so many people is they don't go here because it doesn't look like much from the outside. O.K. that's fine because they're missing out on stellar food. Even one of my closest friends and his wife have mentioned the same thing. I have been telling them about this place for a couple of years now. They finally stopped in a couple of weeks ago after shopping at the local flea market down the street. They are also now hooked and amazed at how great the quality is and how good the food tastes. I have also recently started frequenting them more often lately. Look at the pics. I've been here 3 days within this past week alone. Another fellow yelper from Newtown has also recently mentioned about the outside. Again, that's quite alright. One thing I might mention is if that's one of the more important things that you're looking for you should continue on. When I go out to eat I'm looking for good quality and great tasting food which is the more important thing for me. But to each their own. The flavor that pops thorough with any of the sushi is remarkable. One bite and you'll understand why I and many others are hooked. This place is a must try on your list. You will not be disappointed. They have regular seating inside or you can opt to sit at the sushi bar for some great watching of the sushi master in action. The prices are also very reasonable. They have plenty of parking. Easy in and out of the parking lot or back onto route 34.

My family and I went to Daiko after finding it on a list of CT's best sushi restaurants. I'd been craving sushi for the longest and haven't tried many sushi places in New Haven, so I was excited to check it out! The restaurant itself is fairly small, with 15 or so tables and a bar. The chefs all say hello when you first walk in and the place has a very homey feel. As more customers later walked in, it was clear that they are regulars and have developed very friendly relationships with the chefs and servers, which was nice to see! Service was stellar. They started us off with hot towels to clean our hands with an authentic and very pleasant way to start the meal. We ordered and everything was brought out at a good pace, with enough check ins from our server without hovering. Across the table, we got the beef, shrimp, and chicken teriyaki entrees, as well as a few sushi rolls. I'm sorry to say I was not impressed by the entrees. The steamed vegetables were too raw for my taste, and although the teriyaki sauce was tasty, the meats were very under seasoned and underwhelming. The portion sizes also differed from dish to dish (see pics) even though the beef and shrimp dishes were the same price. Overall, I would not order any of these entrees again. However, the sushi was quite good! I had the spicy tuna with salmon on top, which was really yummy and fresh, and a shrimp and onion roll that was interesting. I wish I had ordered more rolls! I probably won't be further exploring the entrees at Daiko, but I will definitely be coming back for the sushi and ambiance!!
Cozy, great regular specials (spicy kani salad! , good sake selection. Their jumbo rolls are to die for. They don't skimp on the tobiko/caviar.
Started off with shrimp shumai as appetizer and it is pretty standard. Moved onto the special rolls and was amazed with the quality of the wasabi and ginger on the side. Rubbing my hands and ready to dive into the rolls. Fried oyster roll what was that again? Ying&Yang roll salty Dragon roll First bite: did we get the wrong order? Let me further inspect it... I spy a booger sized eel in the corner proving its dignity, (see pics), yes it is indeed a dragon roll, today I learnt to never judge a roll by its first appearance and happy new year to you all. But giving benefit of doubt Perhaps we came at closing hour and they don't have much to offer. Side note: didn't dine in but the interior is very cute, also the restaurant is surrounded in a sea of dealership car park which is pretty romantic.
