Reviews - Lakeside Cafe

Cafe, British, Lunch

Reviews summary

Nestled by the picturesque Roadford Lake, this restaurant offers a stunning setting for a meal or afternoon tea. While the views captivate, the dining experience is a mixed bag. Many patrons appreciate the generous portions and freshly cooked meals, particularly praising the desserts. However, criticism often targets the inconsistent service, disorganization, and lack of options for specific dietary needs. Some describe distressing experiences with slow counter service, cold food, or grumpy staff. Despite these issues, the alluring ambiance and friendly staff occasionally win guests back, making it a spot for both delightful treats and scenic walks.

We stopped by the cafe for a spot of lunch and what a spot! Stunning views over the reservoir and plenty of well placed seating! We had a bacon roll and latte and unfortunately whilst I was ordering go tempted by the amazing looking cakes so had to have a slice each.We wobbled on for the rest of our walk and were so glad to have stopped at this lovely spot for our refreshments.Pleasant service and a welcome toilet jus... What markh593 dislikes about Lakeside Cafe:

Grumpy staff, took away cups at lunchtime to prevent delegates having coffee. Buffet lunch plenty of it... all deep fried or sandwiches... no salad or fruit. No labelling for vegetarians or allergens (a legal requirement).Function room us great, free WiFi, but the staff are miserable as sin! Always friendly. Small gift shop in restaurant. Menu small choice but very good. Tables by the windows have wonderful views. We arranged my mother's 90th birthday there with about 50 people and pre booked meal very helpful manager with boards avaiable for 90 years of photos etc, and good meal. Places for children to play. They would have sorted flowers etc but one of family did that. Bar was avaiable.

Lovely walk around the lake and returned to the café to be rudely informed they weren't serving any more food and had shut the kitchen an hour before advertised! Very poor service. The manager didn't seem to care they were losing money!

We stopped here to have a walk which was very good next time we will take are bikes although having to pay for parking does put me(probaly wont come back because of this) off i think if you were to use the cafe and got some form of discount for parking it would attract more people we had a coffee, hot choclate, milk shake and rocky road to share all was very nice the sfaff were freindly and were working hard all was clean and tidy the price was a little steep for my likeing but no dearer than most places like this the views from the cafe are great and very relaxing also if you can not wlak far the car park is close.

Stopped here for lunch. There was a good menu and daily specials. The service was good and the food well prepared and served. The views of Roadford Lake was quite pleasing whilst you ate.You will pay a car parking charge of £2 but the money goes to maintain the facilities around the lake

Beautiful setting overlooking Roadford Lake, plenty of seating but very poor counter service, disorganised and slow. Food was good when it arrived but part of the order didn 't come with the rest, when we asked about it we were told it would be 'quite a while ' so we cancelled it but then it came anyway. The coffee was good but we had all finished them by the time the food order came. The restaurant wasn 't particularly busy so can 't imagine what it would be like at busy times, it made a family lunch with small hungry child very stressful.

Stopped for brunch after a quick job at the dam pumping station. The large breakfast was excellent, especially the sausages. All food was hot and the coffee was good too. The staff were friendly and polite. My window seat was the perfect place to get some work done on a wet January morning what a view!

Roadford Lake Cafe is a charming dog-friendly café with picturesque views of the lake. After taking a stroll around the area, we decided to stop by the café. The staff was welcoming, the atmosphere cozy, and the food delicious. We definitely recommend a visit to Roadford Lake Cafe.

Situated very close to the Devon Cornwall border so you can have your jam over the cream or cream over the jam on a fresh baked scone or as I did one of each yummy. Very nice cafe, very clean and staff very polite. Only bad side is the parking charge, only £2.50 at time of review, don't these water companies earn enough without having to screw pensioners and the hard pressed, no concession for the disabled either. If you try to use the parking App displayed on the board you will be disappointed as no signal, also the machine rejected my money, but the young lady in the cafe was pleased to take payment, seemed a bit miffed when I asked for the receipt. Best keep all parking receipts these days with too many Dick Turpin Car Parking companies just waiting to pounce on the unwary?

Good coffee cake, but unbelievably slow service for a meal. Ordered Chilli veg curry £12 each took OVER AN HOUR to bring out . Curry tasty but very small portion, missing the garnish, naan hard crispy. Icing on cake was the rice drowned in smoked paprika (WHY!! which made virtually inedible.

I was disappointed with my experience at this restaurant. The tea cakes were cold and toasted long before the coffees were made. The latte was also terrible - either the milk was off or the quality of the beans was poor. It was undrinkable. It's a shame because the setting is lovely.
