I have dined at this restaurant a few times, but the new owners, Colin and Michelle, have something special when it comes to the food that is served. I ordered a BLT with salad for him, and the most amazing fish finger sandwich I have ever had, accompanied by a lovely side salad. Absolutely fabulous. I cannot wait for my next visit, you should definitely give them a try. View all feedback.
What H2450TCscottl doesn't like about The Old Chequers:
I went to the restaurant for a meal, but there was no food available. They were overcharging people for drinks. I saw a man dealing drugs to a scared blonde guy out back. The staff witnessed this but still allowed them to book a table for football tonight. It looks like it will be an eventful night for those willing to risk a raid during COVID. Enjoy at your own risk. Friendly faces, quick service, quality food, massive portions. Pudding was amazeballs . 100% will be returning in the very near future.
I haven't eaten in The Chequers since my student days, but hearing that there was a new family friendly team in the kitchen and the promise of two courses for under a tenner the family headed off for Sunday Lunch. It's a sign of a wise kitchen when the menu options are limited it means that they are focused on doing a few things well rather than churning out mass meals just to make money. Sunday options are limited to Roasts and our choices were Beef Pork or Chicken (although one got the sense from the very friendly kitchen staff) that had you wanted a bit of everything that would have been no bother. Food came quickly but was clearly fresh and unmicrowaved. Generous portions perfect Roast Potatoes and a good selection of vegetables. Clearly a success as very early on our 20 month old was demanding more carrots and our fussy 6 year old had demolished her potatoes and her swede and carrot mash something that may have been more of battle at home. Plates cleared and grumbles of being too full for pudding were soon forgotten when the banana split arrived, a glorious throwback dessert clearly created with love and a generous spoon. We all left full and smiling and that is all you can ask of a Sunday lunch. We will be back and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys good old fashioned home cooked food.
Last we went here they had a good chef who did lively veggie food this time however the only thing on offer was a horrible veggie burger. The cheap type full of carrots. Price was ok but they really need more than one vegetarian hot option. Also odd that they now only do food between the hours of 12pm-3pm.
