By far the best Vietnamese restaurant in Brisbane. I visit this restaurant at lest 4 to 5 times a month great food, service and not overly priced. This placed has been owned and run by the same family for years. Long Than who's is one of the owners is always pleasant and knows how to run a tight ship. Extremely busy at peak times so call to make a booking if you plan on going. Recommend meals Sliced beef Pho, Transpa... View all feedback.
What Maximo Stoltenberg doesn't like about Quan Thanh:
I gave this place too many chances. tonight was the worst. crispy bark meat, which was tasteless and served with greasy wobble slices. so bad. I will not have been getting back View all feedback.
The most amazing rice paper rolls and vermicelli salad in Brisbane. Have tried almost everywhere and can't go past Quan Thanh. Most flavourful marinade and very generous servings. BEST!
I frequent this establishment often with my chinese, cambodian and korean friends who can be snobby with asian foods. They love it! You can't go past the pho or hainanese chicken. I'd also recommend the fish fillets with ginger and shallots and young coconut water as the drink. The food is cheap but flavourful and quality. It's good to order several dishes and share amongst your group. Love that you can sit on either side of the restaurant and order from either menu (the chinese/malaysian kitchen is separate to the vietnamese kitchen and a liquor shop is in between both). Another bonus: BYO alcohol. You can make reservations which is handy if you are planning on going on a busy night. They also do takeaway.
Had dinner here tonight for my birthday, when I arrived I was motioned to sit at the table next to the kitchen. I really didn't want to sit there , so I asked as politely as I could if I could sit anywhere else... this seemed to anger my waiter. As he served my partner and I we noticed a strange look on his face- he almost looked devious. Food was average. Reason for this review however, is approximately minutes upon leaving the restaurant, I nearly burst from my bowels, only just making it home in time. I am 90% certain a laxative was placed in my food tonight. As someone who has spent many years in the hospitality industry, I pride myself on accommodating myself to make the waiter's/restaurants job as easy as possible. I honestly think this was a waiter who was having a terrible night and taking it out on his unsuspecting customers. I can't prove any of this of course, but I thought I would provide a cautionary tale of my visit tonight, for people who may be considering going out for dinner in West End. The good service started with a phone call confirming my booking and explaining there is a minimum spend of $15 per adult, $2 corkage, and one bill per table. We were a group of 12 and seated out the back of the Vietnamese section with the only negative being it was quite noisy. But that was really a small price to pay for amazing food at affordable prices. The food was brought out very quickly and all plates were generous servings. I would definitely return.
Quan Thanh is basically the tastier version of Trang down the road, popular enough to have two entirely separate restaurants focusing on different cuisines right next to each other. We usually tend to go more often for Vietnamese dishes, their food is always very flavourful and in very good portions for the price. I think similar to Trang it's always full because it's never not worth it, it's a way to have a good dinner or lunch out without breaking the bank. Our favourite dish is definitely their Braised Beef Noodle Soup, it's very hearty so be warned that it's not really a lot like Pho; the broth is fatty and rich, the meat is always incredibly tender and so are the vegetables. Be very careful, it will stain your clothes! Service is decent, they almost always have someone at the door to ask if you'd rather have dine in or takeaway, the staff is friendly enough, it's understandable that they're usually in a rush with the amount of people they have to serve. The decor isn't that fantastic either, you're definitely going for the food. Overall, if you just want to have a decent dinner in a very lively restaurant without paying too much, then this place is quite good.
