I'm giving this a 4 star because yesterday our group came in, ordered drinks and food and the waitress told us they ran out of french fries but we could order onion rings or coleslaw...but at a cost of 1.99 upcharge. Hello why make the consumer pay more when they ran out of ff?? If you want people to come back that charge should not have been made. Wasn't open the 4 times I went. Called and no answer. Hours don't match online or posed on the door.

We were in the neighborhood and Desert Penguin has become my go-to when I'm in East County. I've never been disappointed and each time I visit I try something new. On this visit we tried the Baja Boats (potato wedges) and they were delicious. We had the Philly which came with seasoned fries and the carne asada plate which came with rice, beans, tortillas and sauteed jalapeños. Service is always good, restaurant is always well kept and the food is always good. I'll be back.
