I have been to Hede a few times over the years and have enjoyed my meals there on all occasions. The only thing I would say needs changing would be the chairs and the crampness of it all. On one visit it was a bit hard having a lovely birthday dinner with my partner when you are surrounded by three table rows of groups who are all loud. I have been there with a group so I know how annoying it can be for smaller group... View all feedback.
I've been coming to this restaurant for years because my friends enjoy it, but I find the service to be frustratingly slow, even when it's not busy.
I really enjoy dining here. The atmosphere is quite cozy. I notice that most of the patrons are regular students, likely because it's a BYO (bring your own) place. Sometimes, I join them.
"At the lower end of Cuba Street lies a delightful Japanese restaurant offering a fantastic deal on Groupon: just $29 NZD for 2 entrees and 2 netzen. Keep in mind that there may be additional costs for some dishes. The ambiance is lovely, and it’s a great spot to enjoy a tasty meal!"
I visited on Saturday night, and the restaurant was extremely busy. We had made a reservation in advance, but we had to wait about three minutes for our table, which was completely reasonable. Despite the crowd, the staff still remembered us and we didn't have to wait long for our food. Everyone in our group agreed that the food was quite good. We had a wonderful time, especially when the entire restaurant sang happy birthday to a girl at another table, whom we didn't know. I was fully satisfied after finishing my meal. My only concern was the price; it's not exactly cheap, but rather moderate. Also, I was unsure where to line up when it came time to pay.
We brought along friends from the UK who only eat fish and no meat. The menus, made of cool wooden designs, were already on the tables when we arrived. Our friendly waitress asked about our preferences and made excellent recommendations. There was no issue with our friends' dietary restrictions; she served them sushi and sashimi combinations that included only fish and vegetables. The presentation of the food was beautiful! I couldn't help but feel a bit envious when my husband received his miso soup alongside his teriyaki chicken, which came with rice and vegetable dishes too. The tempura prawns were fantastic as well! I opted for the raw fish, and it was delicious. Enjoy your visit!
