If you want authentic Cajun and Southern comfort food, this is the place to go. Personally I love the Etouffee, chicken roast steak, meat cake, Johnny's Yardbird and the Cajun Classic Burger. The owner checks on each table as if you were part of his family. Food is cheap, made with the right spices and served with a smile. View all feedback.
What Sophia Kessler doesn't like about Cafe Johnny's:
We were looking forward to trying Cafe Johnny. We hoped for a good restaurant near home and went to lunch. Unfortunately, my etoufee did not taste like flour in Roux. My husband had the chicken Ragu, essentially chicken in a tomato sauce over rice. The bread was average. I'm sorry to say that, but the food wasn't very good. Too much salt, pasty taste. You have a nice staff, good service, beautiful atmosphere (that wa... View all feedback.
If you want real Cajun food, don't come here. I was raised in South Louisiana and you definitely don't sergeant Jambalaya over rice. They cook the rice and ingredients together. It was tomato sauce over rice. Don't ask me what chicken and sausage Ragu is... it's a secret.
If you're looking for genuine Cajun and Southern comfort food, this is the spot to visit. I particularly enjoy the Etouffee, chicken roast steak, meatloaf, Johnny's Yardbird, and the Cajun Classic Burger. The owner personally visits each table, making you feel like part of the family. The food is affordable, expertly seasoned, and always served with a friendly smile.
We were eager to try Cafe Johnny, hoping to find a good dining spot close to home for lunch. Unfortunately, my étouffée lacked the rich flavor of a proper roux, and my husband's chicken ragu was essentially just chicken in tomato sauce served over rice. The bread was average at best. I’m sorry to say that the food didn’t meet our expectations—too much salt and a pasty texture. On a positive note, the staff was friendly, the service was attentive, and the atmosphere was lovely, which earned a star. I would suggest adding a Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir to the wine list for better variety. I understand how challenging it can be to run a restaurant, especially in such a competitive environment, but it's essential to get the menu right. Additionally, the portion sizes for lunch were quite small given the prices. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant.
I absolutely love this restaurant! It has a very cozy atmosphere, and the staff and owners are exceptionally friendly. It feels like a little home away from home. The food was fantastic!
Right off, the dining area is small but clean with plenty of tables. Tasteful Southern decor. There are several TVs around for you sporty folk. The hostess gave off the new-to-food service vibe, which is fine. I went alone during peak time, Saturday 7pm. My waitress was kind and attentive. The menu is small with all the Southern and Cajun staples which is probably a good idea for a new restaurant). I was 1 of 4 tables dining-in at the time with the manager making rounds with the patrons. Maybe it was Johnny , who knows because he never introduced himself to me. He was, however, very friendly with the 3 OTHER tables. I was anticipating at least a hello but it never happened. Perhaps it was for the better; he and the people closest to me were talking politics a topic of conversation that makes me gag nowadays). What will I have to drink? Water with lemon, please. What? No more lemons? Ok, just the water Got the tea later, which was actually good and not watered down). I ordered the fried pickles for appetizer. They were delicious but....there were way too many overly-fried bits on the bottom. For dinner, I ordered the chicken-fried steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. The steak was a bit under-seasoned with more of those dang overly-fried bits on the underside. Mashed potatoes were cold... And dry : AND I LOVE MASHED POTATOES! Green beans were a bit mushy but they were made with bacon, so that made up for it. Was it terrible? No. It was expensive. I wouldn 't necessarily name this place as recommendation to any of my friends or family. I know it 's new but I hope improvements are on the horizon.
