This is such a find. We live nearby and never knew this was there. It's a tiny shop in the corner of a simple strip mall. You go in through some tables and there is a foodtruck in the back. You order and can sit at one of the tables inside or outside. The owner, Roberto, was so nice. He gave us a couple samples to try. The ceviche was really delicious. We also had a barbacoa plate and a fish taco plate. They make a variety of hot sauces, all from scratch and very fresh. Everything we had was delicious. They have another restaurant in Woodfin that we have yet to try. I am just glad we found this authentic Mexican place!
It's not a food truck. It's a restaurant. A restaurant with No kitchen. No atmosphere. They just back up the food truck where the kitchen would be. Wood heat from cast iron stoves. If you have eaten at the Woodfin Taqueria Fast, you'll recognize the menu...Mazatlan style central Mexican simple food. But a lot more variety. The Woodfin restaurant is run by Gladys, but the chef here is her husband Roberto, and he rocks the tacos. There's a certain guy vibe. The yang to Woodfin's yin. Everything comes to the table piping hot. No bowl of chips. Roberto's homemade sauces have heat unlike Gladys's subtle warmth. 4 tacos and a Mexican soda... $7. Clearly a great place for a romantic date. GREAT tacos. Great ceviche. Check out this place that puts the hole in hole in the wall.
I know Taqueria Fast and have eaten at the brick and mortar cantina in Woodfin. Gladys is a genius. Tonight we dined at the parked food truck where Gladys's husband Roberto is chef. The menu is simpler a limited palette. We had the fish tacos, several little tacos autenticos, and fresh guacamole. Perfect. Everything delicious and quickly served. Roberto and his helper were quiet, funny, and gracious. It's December. The sitting room is heated by wood stove very nicely. The sauces were homemade and fresh. We went home with eight tamales to serve story with wine and appetizers before Christmas dinner. Weaverville is lucky. Do you like the cooking of Gladys or Roberto? Have fun sampling their menus and don't hurry your decision. They are great cooks of authentic Mexican street food.
Located in next to a bodega and a bluegrass music store just off exit 19 of I26 North across the highway from the CVS, this unassuming gem is a satellite of the excellent Taqueria Fast restaurant on Weaver Boulevard. It offers possibly the best bang-for-the-buck lunch in Western North Carolina. It 's basically a food truck attached to back of a storefront with a couple of booths. A Mexican soap opera or a soccer game is usually playing on the TV in the dining room. At $1.50 each, the Mexican street tacos are the real deal. In addition to the standard pork, chicken and shrimp, you can also opt to munch on a tripe or tongue taco. If you are lucky, the ceviche tostada will be on the menu. The place is a foodie 's delight!
