We used to frequent this restaurant regularly and it was always satisfactory. The food was typical Wetherspoons fare, offering good value, and the staff were pleasant. However, our recent visits have been disappointing. The tables were dirty and sticky, the chairs were worn and had holes in the fabric, and the meals were inconsistent in temperature - everything was hot except for the cold chips. Additionally, we noticed fruit flies buzzing around our food. Something has clearly changed for the worse. It is concerning that this once decent pub has deteriorated in quality. This is not acceptable at all.
As frequent patrons of this Wetherspoons pub, we typically enjoy our meals. However, on recent visits, we have noticed that the tables are consistently sticky and dirty, not being cleaned between customers. We often have to clear used plates ourselves and have resorted to bringing wet wipes in my bag. Wetherspoons, this is not acceptable.
We have been coming to this restaurant for years and we especially enjoy the family walled courtyard at the back. There is also a section by the pub for smokers. However, we are confused as to why there is a seating area next to a public highway/footpath where dogs are not allowed, even though it is not technically on Wetherspoons property. The food and service are consistently better during the week compared to weekends. Unfortunately, we have had issues with our meals on the last couple of weekends and were made to feel like it was our fault. After pointing out that the cheese and bacon was missing from the gourmet chicken burger, it was brought out. We have not experienced these issues during the week. It seems that they may be short-staffed on weekends, but overall we still believe it offers good value for money.
I would like to thank the staff at this spoons because they where all friendly, had smiles on their faces. One of the kitchen staff I believe is part of management called Darren was very nice, cheerful when bringing out our meals. All bar staff was amazing, happy. The chain should be proud of the team at Hailsham and I would recommend folks to try the friendly pub. Me and my partner had a wonderful experience, Thanks Guys for a wonderful experience. Before lockdown we regularly visited the George for meals and were very impressed with the quality and value. We were therefore looking forward to a meal there this week before our visit to the Pavilion cinema. I'm sorry to say we were sadly disappointed. I ordered the Beef Madras which was ok but the poppadoms were soft and partly uncooked and the nan was like a piece of leather whereas on our previous visits they had been superb. My wife had the steak which previously came with peas, onion rings and a mushroom. This time she was served an overdone steak with just chips nothing else. So sad to see our local pub go downhill like this and it has put us off visiting again.
