Then I ordered a delicious soup with a chicken-mango panini that staff had come into work at 7:00 in the morning to make fresh from scratch that day. Then I was in a celebrating mood because my wife just passed a big exam, went up to the bar to order a glass of wine, was told to line up over at the cash register, went to sit down until the line got smaller, and the manager came up with a glass of wine and said I should pay when I finished. Every campus should have a cafe like this, run by students, committed to healthy and tasty food and to making people feel welcome, no matter how much they spend. There were people outside playing fiddles, guitars and signing, and I can only imagine what it's like in spring and summer when the outdoor cafe opens.
