Cafe used to be better before COVID1. Menu revamp not quite as good value, but it's the best big brunch you can get til 4pm. Often it's impossible to get an espresso drink made the way you want (even using common coffee ordering language . Americano w/1 cream became a cappuccino with a lot of sugar. 1 caf/1 decaf double espresso became a huge Americano watered down with a shot of cream in it. Atmosphere in the cafe is awesome though due to the beautiful room (though they painted the tin ceiling! The building is super cool, walk around a bit.
Great staff and kitchen crew whom put alot of care into food and servers and make you feel like a valuable Customer! The best home fires in the 3 ctiys not to be missed !Great atmosphere to dinning in as wellFood: 5/5
Not a bad place but technically it is a bad place considering the people that built this place were stonemasons and they have pictures in the basement of a mason gathering with one man facing forward against the wall while all others face each other in a long line, then again John Labatt was connected with a lot of sinister stuff back then. I get a very uneasy feeling being in this place, good service and food but….I personally would tare down the whole thing and rebuild it, historical..yes but evil stuff went down in here. It’s absolutely amazing how many people don’t even realize it and have no clue of its past.
I came with friends and it was pretty awesome! Our waiter, Andrew, was really hospitable and cool. All the food tasted good as well! I got pirogies and a side of fries. I recommend here!Food: 5/5
The cafe and restaurant combination at this establishment offers a mix of experiences for diners. From a potentially unsettling historical past to a refurbished cafe with a lovely atmosphere, there's a lot to take in. The rooftop patio at Barley Works provides a nice setting, despite mixed reviews on food quality. Excellent food found in a very inclusive environment, topped off with warm service from the staff, makes it a go-to for many. Cafe 1842 offers a cozy vibe with a variety of food and drink options, set up to please customers with a friendly staff. The local brew house does not disappoint either, providing a unique outdoor environment with fresh, homemade food and local brews. Overall, fantastic service and great food options for a variety of tastes. Cheers to a nice dining experience in Uptown Waterloo.

Such a fun time. There is a café and pool and pub restaurant and a German restaurant. Come every time I come to Waterloo.
We ordered a record of Nachos, I made the point to say, please make sure it doesn't have Jalapeños. When he came under the cheese, he was full of them. I...

This local brew house and eatery is fantastic. The large patio has a unique atmosphere. The food is prepared with care using fresh ingredients - for example, the coleslaw is homemade, not from a container. We tried the fish tacos, schnitzel, and local brew and highly recommend them. We used to frequent this place heavily during our university days, so it's great to see it still running so well.
The Huether Hotel has become one of my favourite places to go to in Uptown with there being so many amenities to enjoy such as pool, the cafe, jazz room, etc. However, I was really disappointed to see that I was not able to have a meal there as there is no vegan menu, let alone any vegan options on their current menu. This is very bothersome for me as I would like to enjoy ALL of the facilities they have to offer, especially something like dining. All they suggested was to remove the cheese or other dairy products, but this takes so much away from the meal itself. I would highly encourage the Huether to add vegan options to their menu making it a place for everyone to enjoy. I know many vegans who would support the business if having these options. I hope the owner would consider this request as it is important to me as someone who would like to continue going.
The staff at this restaurant are some of the friendliest around. The bartender, Emily, is always smiling and welcoming. The food is fantastic, especially the pork tacos - kudos to the chefs! This is also one of the few places in the area with a pool hall. Don't miss out on visiting the patio!
