Bread & Bretzel Basket

Description

A charming bakery offers a mixed bag of baked goods, from disappointing Streudel to heavenly German pretzels. Friendly staff but lacking customer service toward regulars. Delicious coffee and desserts, especially the black forest roll. Limited seating, cozy ambiance, low prices. Owner Klemens adds a personal touch. Fresh, reasonably priced items worth ditching grocery store options for. Students and locals alike rave about the cozy atmosphere and delicious treats. A favorite spot for bread and sweet treats, with friendly staff and fantastic coffee. A must-visit for those craving fresh, affordable baked goods.

I have tried a variety of things at this bakery and many are good: pies, cakes and pastries, and breads. But by far the very best, most delectable thing at this bakery are the German pretzels (or as they call them, "bretzels". Especially when they're fresh out of the oven, they are chewy on the outside and warm and yummy on the inside. I was delighted to find them because many-a-pretzel LOOKS good but definitely lacks in taste (including some of the market pretzels which are tough!). This place is an unassuming little shop in the corner of a strip plaza and one wouldn't expect to find such a wonderful bakery there! But there it is!

Only tried a few items, stopping in for desserts & drinks. The streudel seemed exactly like what one would find in a donut shop chain, pre-frozen, overly sugary, not very fruity. The black forest roll was similarly too sweet, didn't remind us of the authentic black forest cake we've had in the South of Germany nor at some German restaurants in this area. These were quite inexpensive sweets, though, to be fair.Wasn't exactly thrilled with the service: sticky desserts but no cutlery and no napkins offered. Asked if they'd microwave the streudel: no dice on that. Expressed an interest in one of the photographs on the wall, wondered if we could ask the owner about it. We were standing there for a long time and the clerk seemed in no hurry to pass the message. Didn't seem busy, just kind of uninterested.Bought a fruit pie to take home. Passable but it's easy to find better in this region. Don't mean to sound harsh; it was just OK. Expected something more special because a friend raved about the place. Has a variety of baked goods and simple lunch items so we will have to ask what our friend recommends from the menu next time.

This place is a traditional German style bakery. It does some of the best German baking in the city anything is great.

I'm thrilled to have this amazing local bakery! The selection of chocolate, marzipan, pretzels, strudel, and bread is all fantastic. Everything is delicious!

The baked goods here are consistently outstanding, and it's great that they're just a short walk from our home! They offer a variety of options, including bread, pretzels, bagels, and much more.
