I’ve been a long time patron at the Tabard… always loved their warm quirky atmosphere which lends to both formal and informal attire. The food was never a 5 star rating but good for the price. It wasn’t until the past couple of years that I started noticing a fast decline. After a few highly disappointing experiences, I finally gave up. Fish was totally over cooked, presentation was sloppy, service was horrible. It’s too sad! I miss the old Tabard!!
Great place to stay for a night, but I would go elsewhere if I needed a place to work or be comfortable long term. Perfect on the price and location front and we loved the study style lounge and restaurant area. I tend to avoid restaurants connected tohotels unless I am there for convenience, but this place was worth making some time to try. It was also an easy walk down to themall and a lot of other great places to eat and drink in the city. The rooms are spacious and the bed was very comfortable. Wehad extra pillows in the room and the AC was perfect for a super hot few days in DC. No TV was a nice change for a short tripsince that is not why we were there and sound does travel in the building so probably better for everyone overall. The ambianceof the hotel is one of the best reasons to stay here and it is worth taking some time to walk around and see what you can findon the walls. The two big issues were the shower and the wifi. The wifi did not work for us at all the whole time we were thereand we had trouble getting help from the front desk so we just gave up on that and used mobile data (signal was fine in ourroom). The shower was pretty bad and needs work; It was clean and water pressure was good, but the temperatures did not hold. The temperature would fluctuate from scalding hot to cold (not freezing because it seems even the cold water was warm in thesink, which wasn't great for drinking). It made for some very quick showers and having to step out to wait for the water to getback in a good range. On the small side I do think there is a good bit of small maintenance that should be done. Honestlynothing that would stop me from staying again, but if we had been here for more than two nights they probably would have buggedus. Bottom line, this is a great place to stay, but make sure your expectations are in line with what you will get. This isdefinitely a place to experience, not necessarily to come and relax or work.
We had the worst experience here. We were gifted a free night and meal at the restaurant from one of my favorite actresses and were excited based on the reviews. Instead we could not get a good night's rest. The person/people in the room next to us keptknocking on the door waking us up and claiming we had something called hooka? I have no idea what that is, it sounds illegal. Then the night manager came to the room because the people next door were complaining and the night manager said he smellednothing. Really? Of course you did not smell anything, we don't smoke! It was ridiculous. They did refund our parking fee. Wewere told that the manager would be in touch to discuss the issue, but that never happened. It's been a year now and nothing. Apparently the people next to us were long term residents. I don't know why they never addressed our experience, but I cannotrecommend a place that does not address issues such as people disturbing a family at night. That is unacceptable. The restaurantwas wonderful and highly recommended. So much for the DC experience.
