Momo Yakitori - Washington

I really wanted to like this place. My husband and I were thrilled to see a Japanese restaurant in NE, but despite the great reviews and ambience we left the restaurant completely disappointed with our experience. Overall, the food was overpriced, bland and dry. So, in fact, my husband and I couldn't even finish the meal and left to have a second dinner somewhere else immediately. It was the worst $100 we've ever spent on a meal in DC. When trying over 15 spits, the only taste that came through was burned coal. I hope our experience was isolated (because I would love more restaurants in the area), but we will never be back again.

This property has a bad habit of installing restaurants that drain your pocketbook and still leave you hungry. The food can be exquisite, no doubt, but at the end of the day, it's still mostly chicken parts on skewers and this spot is well penetrated into NE DC; something more affordable and filling would be appreciated.

First time there. Ate pretty well. Loved everything I tried. I also loved the concept of the sake bar with instant ramen and anime downstairs.

Finally we got a decent Yakitori place, which satisfies tongues of Japanese people, in DC. You should make reservation to secure your seats. Variety of pieces are available and grilled on charcoal; it was the first time to find cartilage, our favorite, in town. They use Tamari soy sauce (gluten free! locally made in Virginia by San-J, which adds to the depth of flavor. Handmade marshmallow was awesome. Highly recommended.

Had a great time trying the only Yakitori in DC. All food was delicious and there was enough variety to keep us happy. I've had Yakitori at amazing restaurants in Japan and New York and Momo Yakitori is among them.
