We visited El Tamarindo during DC Veg Restaurant Week because of their special menu, and we were pleasantly surprised to find that their regular menu is also very vegan-friendly. The service was extremely slow. I felt bad for the waiter, because he was responsible for the entire half of the restaurant. Definitely not enough staff for a busy Saturday night. The food was good and they had reservations available on open table, even though there was a long line out the door. With the reservation, we were able to walk right in an be seated. What a delight! Outdoor seating with sangria and Latin music. Good vibes! Has a lot of vegan options and we tried the empanadas and the combination plate with papusas, tamal, rice and beans. All vegan options clearly marked. My favorite was the vinegar-based coleslaw — I asked for more and put it on everything.
I got the oat milk horchata and jackfruit enchilada and both are incredibly delicious. non veg friends love it too
El tamarindo has the best Vegetarian/Vegan pupusas in the DMV. Always do Uber eats from here and if you go down to Adam’s Morgan it is a lovely place to eat in person as well.
I ordered the special DC Vegan Week menu for delivery. I was sharing with a friend, so we ordered one of each dish. Everything was delicious! I'm so impressed with how an omni restaurant is able to come up with filling and tasty vegan dishes. The chile relleno filled with jackfruit, plantains, and other deliciousness was a particular highlight. Definitely will be a go-to in the future!
The pupusas are delicious. There is a decent variety of options for fillings. The jackfruit empanada was surprisingly good. It has mushroom texture but a great savory flavor. Portion sizes are good and the staff is friendly and attentive. The place is bigger than it appears. They also have a decent sized patio area with outdoor seating.
