Was looking for a brunch spot with vegan options for a guest. Came across this spot online. The reviews were mixed, but I'm happy to say I've had great experiences so far. I've actually gone two weekends in a row! The breakfast sandwiches are THAT delicious. Some reviewers complained that the service is slow. However, it's not a fast casual spot. Go there, relax and enjoy the ambiance and food forget the rush. View all feedback.
What Elizabethh Paredes doesn't like about Butter Me Up:
Food and drinks were good quality. It was crazy hot and a little chaotic. Our waiter was kind but seemed very confused. Breakfast hit the spot. Chai tea latte honestly tastes just like starbucks's. View all feedback.
Eating is average, no seasoned, salt or even sugar. one and done kind of space. the people are very nice, but not in sync.
While the lovely decor and heart-shaped plates are supremely Instagrammable, the tiny tables and backless stools are not conducive to comfort or long brunches. The sandwiches are a reasonable $12, and quite delicious, though they left me hungry. I might have preferred a sandwich with a side of potatoes or fruit something for a higher price (e.g., $15) rather than feeling hungry. The single sandwich would be the perfect to-go option, though. I had one cocktail for $15, which was hard to swallow given it was more than my entree, but it was truly delicious and the price is relatively on bar with other DC establishments with cocktails of that caliber. I can’t remember the name of the drink but it was a passion fruit vanilla vodka shot and Prosecco shooter, which I highly recommend. The oddest thing is that there was really no service. You place your order and pay entirely on your phone and only see an individual when they bring you your food. It was confusing to figure this out for ourselves when we walked in, and was disappointing to have no one to ask questions of or recommendations. I also disliked have to select a tip when I ordered instead of at the end. At that point, just charge a service fee instead. I think the lack of service really downgrades the experience from luxury to cafe and makes the $15 cocktail more problematic. Comfier seating/tables and true table service would do this place wonders, though I have no complaints about the quality of the food and drink.
Lovely decor and diverse patronage and staff. The service was also very good. The prices are high even for DC, I spent over $50 before gratuity and left hungry and the quality of my food order was mediocre. I had a happy ending sammie which was NOT buttered up-so it tasted dry bc the pancakes were too thick and overall the item was not as big and juicy as the menu illustration. The turkey sausage was very bland. I also had an espresso martinithat was $14 and the best ever! I got sweet potato waffle fries (the sweet potato tots were unavailable). Since i was still hungry after eating these 2 breakfast items, I ordered a large iced Chai to go and it was $7-$8, but cheaper than the mediocre food. Unfortunately it wasn't as good as a WaWa's or Dunkin Donuts chai. Parking is the usual DC challenge but I would definitely go back for the espresso martini.
Great service, Great food, Great aesthetic. Loved everything about this place!
We visited fairly early on a weekday and it wasn’t super busy. The food was fabulous and made fresh to order. It was very comfortable with a cool vibe. Staff was very friendly.
