This little restaurant was a wonderful and welcome find after days of carb heavy, tourist oriented meals. The couple who operates it is very sweet and the menu is full of delicious lighter fare options. View all feedback.
The food in this restaurant feels like sitting in a kitchen. It is very personal and the food was really fantastic. I would recommend something with Quinoa.
For a few weeks in South America, I continuously searched for gluten-free and milk-free options for many regional foods. Since it is common for wheat flour to be added to most maize flour-based products, I was really adored to some authentic treats. Altura's kitchen delivered with my first Empanada of the trip! I also tried and can recommend the troutceviche, vegetable green curry and chocolate lavender shake. There were many options that were made gluten-free and milk-free or could. So many that we visited Cusco several times a week.
Peter greeted us with the enthusiasm of someone who loves what they do. His warm welcome, fast service and very good food were very appreciated my group. English is spoken and included in the menu. The prices were good. What is not to like?
I went with 3 friends to Alturas Kitchen. I ordered their meat gluten-free pizza and organic cappuccino. My friends ordered the Beef Stir Fry Alturas style, the Quinoa Salad, Ceviche to share, Quinoa Burger, lemonades with mint and a fruit smoothie. I have traveled around the world and visited many restaurants while traveling. For a restaurant that prepares everything for you from scratch when you order it, including their own pizza dough waiting time of about 25 minutes in average is very standard anywhere in the world. We waited the average time for our food. Of course, we could have grabbed something quick to eat at a fast food restaurant, but we value high quality, fresh delicious food. This restaurant got it all. My friends and I were very satisfied. My pizza was very flavorful and the cappuccino very good. I have had Ceviche in the past, but this one was definitely so special and exotic. My friends´ loved the Beef Stir Fry, Quinoa dishes, lemonade and smoothie. At the end of our meal, the dishes were totally empty. I am serious! We had a feast! … and at such an amazing value. My pizza, which is nothing short of a gourmet pizza made fresh from scratch was only S/. 30 soles (Did I mention it was made with organic tomatoes? . My friends told me the quinoa dishes were great. I´d love to visit Cusco again, and when I do I will go back to this restaurant for sure. I recommend going for great meals to Alturas Kitchen.
We stayed at the José Antonio Hotel in Cusco and found this restaurant directly across the street. We loved it! We started with 2 soups: the chicken with rice soup, and the quinoa vegetable soup. Both were great! We then shared 2 main dishes: the lamb chops, and the green Thai curry. Both of those dishes were also flavorful and delicious. The restaurant has a wide range of vegetarian dishes. One special thing about the restaurant is that each dish is made to order, so they are happy to accommodate any special dietary needs in preparing each dish, including gluten-free pasta. The owner/server was very friendly, and her English was excellent, as she lived for awhile in Canada and in California. We highly recommend this restaurant!
