Contribute FeedbackThe Oak pub has received mixed reviews lately, with some customers experiencing disappointing meals including cold sandwiches and tough gammon. However, others have praised the delicious food, friendly service, and great value for money. Despite recent changes in ownership, the quality of the food remains excellent according to loyal customers who enjoy the Sunday carvery. Overall, it seems The Oak offers standard pub fare, with some hits and misses, but generally provides a pleasant dining experience with friendly staff.
We booked here for dinner on our way up the A1. We had fish and chips, liver, bacon and chips, a side of onion rings and a child's fish fingers followed by honeycomb cheesecake and chocolate fudge cake. It was standard pub food nothing special, but fairly cheap and convenient for where we were staying.
This is a fantastic place. It's actually one of our favorite spots in town. The food is delicious and the service is top-notch. The food is made to order so there might be a bit of a wait, but it's definitely worth it. We tried the hunters chicken and mixed grill, both cooked perfectly.
I have read previous reviews and I am surprised by the comments. Yes, the restaurant has changed ownership, but the staff and chef remain the same. The food continues to be of excellent standard, just like before. My family and I enjoy the Sunday carvery every week, which is always outstanding and a great value for the price.
I have been a loyal customer of this pub since 2019, but my recent lunch experience was extremely disappointing. After waiting for an hour for our food, I was served a dry and tough gammon. The waitress informed me that they were still waiting for a delivery of supplies, which she could have mentioned when I ordered. My daughter's Yorkshire pudding had green spots and her chips had hair on them. Even my 13-month-old grandson found a hair in his food. As we were leaving, the delivery driver arrived, adding to the chaos. To top it off, my bank statement shows a different name for the restaurant, indicating that something has changed. Sadly, I will not be returning and fear that they may lose more customers like myself.
Who needs toby carvery when you've got the oak... called in today with my sister and received a warm welcome as always... chose to have the carvery and the food as usual was great and plentiful.... staff food and location are fantastic.
