Backfins Crab House - Wake Forest

On a Friday night, we anticipated the usual wait for dinner, but to our delight, we were seated right away at 7 PM. What a pleasant surprise! We started with the grilled oysters (8), which were delicious and satisfying. My partner ordered the snow crab with hush puppies, while I had the crab cake with onion rings. Both dishes were fantastic. Our server was friendly and attentive throughout our meal. We’ve never been let down by Backfins. Definitely go and enjoy yourself—just leave your tuxedo at home!

The food was excellent, but the service left a lot to be desired. I had to request napkins multiple times and even had to ask for the salad twice since it hadn't been brought out the first time. After waiting 20 minutes, I almost considered canceling my order, even though the manager mentioned that it had only been sent to the kitchen 11 minutes earlier. She might have been a new server.

I've been searching for steamed blue crab in North Carolina for some time. My husband, who hails from Maryland, insists that it has to be blue crab, steamed, with Old Bay or something similar. He rated it 4.5 stars, but only because they didn't have Natty Boh available. That's high praise, believe me! Our friends ordered the crab cakes and creamy crab soup, and they both raved about how excellent they were. The hush puppies were also spot on. However, as others have mentioned, they don't always have blue crab available, so it's best to call ahead and prepay.

Absolutely amazing! The steamed crab legs and shrimp were seasoned to perfection. They tasted much healthier than the seafood boil bags I've had at other places, as they weren't soaked in heavy oils but still packed with flavor. Great job! The service was exceptional as well. Even though they were about to close, they cheerfully accommodated our to-go orders. I truly enjoyed the experience!
