Clam Bake - Waimea
Clam Bake
Description
Perched on the water, this beachside spot is beloved for unlimited seafood—lobster, crab, oysters—and live music and sunsets. Longtime servers and friendly staff enhance the island vibe, though experiences vary: some praise generous portions and prime rib, others report cold food, flies, melted desserts, missing butter and high prices. Outdoor seating offers atmosphere but can lack shade and insect control. Reservations recommended; value depends on timing and expectations.

If you're seeking the classic all-you-can-eat clam bake, this is not the place for you. The food arrived cold, there was no butter available, and the limited options were disappointing. We weren’t offered refills on drinks, butter, or bread. The bill for my daughter and me came to $303, and for that price, we had a cold dinner, with no crab and just one lobster. We even decided to skip dessert to avoid further disappointment. This used to be a bustling, hot buffet where you could choose exactly what you wanted without wasting food. We won’t be returning until we hear better reviews. We're very disappointed.
I really wanted to enjoy this place because it was both expensive and we chose it for our anniversary. The Clam Bake took place at the Hau Tree Cafe, which is an outdoor venue. Unfortunately, this meant there were a lot of flies, and the staff struggled to keep them away from the food, while I found it even more difficult to keep them off my own meal. As a result, I couldn't fully enjoy my dinner at all. To make matters worse, the sun was still out, and our table had no umbrella, making it quite hot in the open air. Overall, it was a very disappointing dining experience. I recommend saving your money and opting for an indoor, air-conditioned restaurant where you can enjoy a truly delicious seafood meal instead of being drawn in by the appeal of an all-you-can-eat seafood buffet. It definitely wasn't worth it.
The only reason 2 stars is because he staff was very friendly. The food was not up to par Flies were swarming around. The food was so no worth 300.00 for a party of 2. We've been here before and have just been reminded why this is the last time ever. The ice cream station was melted and tasted disgusting. Never we will come again! Again the staff was great and the only reason this place got 2 stars and not negative stars
My wife and I have been going here for quite a few years and when we first dined here would have given this at least 4 stars. After last week though just 2 stars.Selection and quality have gone down while Price has went up.Definetly our last visit.
Covid Update: Reservation is a must because it gets packed and eating time could be longer so whats different and why did I change my ratings from 5 to 3? Keep reading ... My fiancee made a reservation and we showed up 20 min early, and they sat us. Cool! The waitress greeted us right away and served us our drinks, gave us the covid lay out that night. Heres what she said, This is your menu, each course will be brought out when youre ready for the next course. It is a buffet so you can order as many as you want, but youll have to let me know what you want and ill get it for you simple direct. I like that! Sounds good right? yea no lol 1st course is up entree (sashimi, salad, fruit/shrimp/cheese platters, different selections of breads) We kindly told our waitress that we dont eat sashimi and she took it away with a smile. No problem. These portions arent big but for two ppl, these entrees will have us full before we get to the main course, epecially when their bread/butter is super good lol. Anyhow, were enjoying our entree and chatting the night away forever and we realized that our waitress has NOT returned to us lol haha Our drinks: empty Entree: down to the last bread Waitress: nowhere to be found Luckily another waitress passes us up so we let her know that were ready for our next course. Shes a good one because she didnt throw our waitress under the bus, nor gave an im sorry you got her as a waitress type of response. A minute passes up and this lady clears our table and brings us our main course, she asks what we want to drink so we order 6 drinks incase we get left unattended. Main course meals: Prime Rib, sauce, pan of seafood boil is placed in front of us and were ready to dig in. First cut into the prime rib, perfect! First bite into it, its super cold; not warm, not even a hint of heat. Poured sauce on it hoping itll be hot; nope, that 's cold too. We place it to the side, and decided to try the seafood boil. Guess what? Everything is super cold. Now im irritated. Guess who magically appears? Our waitress asking us if everything is ok and before we got to answer, shes walkin away to the next table askin the same question to them while continuing to walk away. Lol smh. She comes back around and I wave her down, i let her know our food is cold and if we could get our food heated. She didnt hesitate, she takes our food back and comes back 5 minutes later with our food warmed up. It was much much better than before, we finished the main course as we waited for someone to clear the tables, luckily we had 4 more drinks to down while we wait, again. While waiting we take a look at the dessert menu and it didn 't sound good. So we weren 't going to order dessert, but lo behold, guess who shows up with dessert thinking we wanted desserts? Our lost waitress Long story short on dessert? We didnt finish it, first bite we spat it out. No buennno lol Interesting night. How would I have done it? I would have told the waitress from the beginning, all we need is a hot pan of seafood boil, bread and hot serving of primerib times 2, maybe 3. No entrees, no dessert because nothing on the menu interest us besides the main course. Im not coming back for the covid servings, hopefully itll get back to normal this summer.
