Recommended in all travel guides is O Hilario, which indeed has very good food... read more My wife and I stayed for 6 nights in Viseu and looked for various places to eat. Recommended in all travel guides is O Hilario, which indeed has very good food , but one night it was closed. So we went into A Taberna in the same street, nearly across the road. The atmosphere was great pleasant Fado music. The food and wine were excellent and they also have a bigger variety than Bacelhau. The owner prefers speaking German over English at least on the night we were there. We would definitely eat here again.

Follow the street down a couple of meters and you 'll find the restaurant A Taberna Viseu . Short and simple, the food is amazing. As entrys we had a plate of traditional portuguese cheese and sausage, a plate of grilled shrimps, and some bread along with it. I ate chicken with rice and handmade fries. And at the end for dessert we got a pudding with stripes of orange. On a side note, they also have a fine selection of portuguese wines. We drank two bottles of white wine and both were very good. But the best things about A Taberna Viseu are it 's atmosphere and the friendly service. The owners, a older married couple and their son, are in typical portuguese fashion really welcoming and nice. If you want to enjoy portuguese cuisine in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, do yourself a favour and visit A Taberna Viseu . I promise you won 't regret it. Marcus Rodrigues @marcmarod)

The food wine is excellent, and the service amazing. Our waiter was nice, welcoming and did a lot to make us and the other guests feel comfortable. The atmosphere is great, the interior design is very traditional, but new ! and so so cute. You 'll find people from Viseu here as we are , as well as tourists. Highly recomend to try it out! And it 's just a 2 min walk from the cathedral Sé de Viseu .

Great, very authentic portuguese food in a familiar atmosphere to a very reasonable price. We paid 44 Euro for a menu (variation of tapas) plenty for three people, including the tasty red wine, bread, olives, water and coffee. We had a very nice evening, high recommendation !

The food was made by the owner himself and tasted excellent and the wine was a good match. We would recommend this restaurant to anybody.
