Firebrew - Virginia Beach
Firebrew
Description
Firebrew offers a mixed dining experience, with some customers voicing disappointment in overcooked food, bland sauces, and inconsistent portion sizes. The side dishes were consistently lukewarm, leading to a disappointing overall experience for some diners. However, others praised the restaurant for its delicious food cooked over an open flame, reasonable prices, and friendly staff. The wine selection was also highlighted as a great feature, with the ability to taste wines enhancing the dining experience. Loyalty rewards and seasonal specials were mentioned as additional positives. Despite mixed reviews, Firebrew seems to offer a unique dining experience for those looking for freshly cooked food in a non-chain restaurant setting.

We were walk-ins late on a holiday weekend. We sat at their bar while we waited for a table. Several good local beers on tap, including Young Veterans, Smartmouth, Reaver beach, and O?Connor. The bartender was pleasant and helpful. The waiter, Josh, wasfriendly and attentive. He offered suggestions and helped direct us through the menu. The manager came by our table twice as hemade his rounds. He tried to answer my question about how the chef achieved such a perfect sear on their scallops. They wereseared on just one side to a golden brown with just a hint of crispy. We ordered the seasonal seared scallops and the shrimp &scallop Florentine. Both were delicious. The scallops were perfect and the shrimp were so tasty. The Florentine was my favorite. We loved the flatbread and the seared tuna apps. We left with several boxes and vowed to return.
I got the ribs (pictured) and my wife got the ribeye. The ribs were fantastic! Love the honey BBQ sauce. My wife's steak was nothing special but was good. The fries were weirdly kind of burnt but kind of under done (they tasted fine though. It's aproduct of being roasted rather than fried). Owner is a navy veteran and has lived in VA Beach since around 1998 (according tothe bio on the table).
For starters, the spinach and artichoke dip is outstanding. Huge chunks of artichoke and the ?pita points? are just the right balance of soft and sturdy (for dipping. The tuna bites are also delicious! When asked how you?d like them cooked, just ask for?barely touched.? This made sure they were warm, but just barely seared. A lot of places don?t get this right, but Firebrew hasit figured out! The Shrimp and Scallops Florentine was divine. Couldn?t recommend it enough! Very fresh and very well preparedall around. The ribs were a hit; I didn?t try them, but I was told they were amazing. That said, burgers should be taken off themenu. Very dry, surprisingly bland, and overall subpar meat quality. Both people in our party that got burgers were notsatisfied. Very surprising for a ?bar and grill.? The Key Lime Pie is also nothing to write home about; not bad, just notgreat. Overall, the service was impeccable, though drinks do take a little long to arrive from the bar. The meals were allfantastic, aside from the burgers. The final price isn?t terrible for the quality either. Will definitely be back, will justmake sure to steer everyone with us away from the burgers!.
Had a great time at lunch today. Service was prompt, the food was fresh and delicious. The size of the salad was perfect for my appetite. Pizza was all the right textures in all the right places. Clean tables and Bree made us feel like old friends. Can'twait to go back so I can take advantage of their special bonus items from FB messenger!
