Reliquia is an excellent restaurant: delicious Portugese dishes (try also the Cataplana! and good wines a professional staff, friendly and attentive a cosy place, located in the heart of the historic centre of Vila do Conde
If in Vila do Conde and you get the urge for Tapas, this is the place to visit. We visit frequently. Situated in the old side of the city its nicely decorated (rustic look) but the secret are the tapas all very tasty. Starters, olives and various types o bread and a delicious tuna pate. The tapas go from cod fish iscas to the prawn iscas, chouriço with pineapple, excellent clams, prawns with papaya, giblets, small veal scallops spanish style and much more. Portions are adequate, normally 3 different tapas for 2 people should be enough. Sangria is good the wine list pretty short. Range of desserts. Service and atmosphere is homely. Quality price excellent.
The staff here are just lovely, the olives, wine, bread are super tasty! They even managed to seat us without a reservation but they had to turn away 5-6 further groups as they were packed. Filled with locals for inexpensive hearty food. The only problem was that the calamari was re-formed seafood in a ring in a heavy batter (clearly frozen) and the pork in bread crumbs was stale and dry not fresh and light. The Spanish peppers and mushrooms in cream were lovely. I felt like I should have loved the massive king prawns cooked with spices and garlic but there was something not right. This place is very inexpensive and atmosphere relaxed, friendly and authentic. Had the calamari been fresher I'd have forgiven everything but fake calamari rings is a never-ever event in the U.K., never mind in a coastal Portugal!
The Reliquia is a small tapas restaurant on a quiet street that runs along the side of Hotel Brazao. The tapas portions are generous so a couple are only necessary per person. We started with corn bread and a tuna pate and followed it with a hearty soup. We also had drinks and it only came to 11€ per head. The squid was particularly delicious. At the end of the meal you are offered a shot of the house drink which is flavoured with cinnamon. The waiter could speak good English and was able to guide us through the menu.
I've tried out others in this region and this one has the best quality. It's not the best I've been to, but it's the best in the region! Food is good for the price. Nice ambience. Friendly staff. Well located in the historical city center, but a little difficult to park though. Well worth it for a relaxed tapas meal! I shall return!
