We were around people and had the whole place for ourselves. The owners were gracious and welcoming. They had set tables with so many appetizers and salads that were brilliant, delicious, colorful. The whole meal was like a wedding. Lots of great food and...great atmosphere. The only downside was the decor, which looks like someone wrote in their recommendation, like an old folks home. But, we had a blast! Thank you.
We intended eating at another restaurant in the area and happened to stumble upon Simchas. We had not had a good kosher meal for weeks and we decided that the place looked ok. What a pleasant surprise. We ordered starters which included salads, pita,...felafel and dips- great and very filling and we soon realised how silly we were in having starters when the size of our chicken schnitzels arrived- it couldn't fit on the huge plate, and with the fries and salad, we were very satisfied and could barely walk out the door. Would recommend to anyone- we even took a few souvenir kippot to take back home with us.
Did not know what to expect, and since the plasma was mostly empty at pm on a Wednesday it did not help... however once the food started coming we were all impressed. The portions were very generous, the falafel with hummus and salad starters...very tasty and my rice and beef main (Plov) v. good. The wine also quite fine. All in all a very positive experience given the fairly reasonable bill. Well worth a visit!
Food good. I like the little individual salads, but they are set up to be eaten by at least two or more people. I wish I could get the wait staff to limit for one person but I cannot. When I am there for a...conference I try to eat there at least once or twice.
I'd never eat here again, really. Maybe, maybe, if you paid me? I don't understand the good reviews, unless they come from friends and family. Here's why: Service: The waitress was a trainwreck waiting to happen. She spoke almost no English (okay, that's not bad...in itself, but it did make communication difficult when there were future disagreements), and she brought us a meal that we didn't order. One member of our party ASKED what a certain dish was (the zombie brain dumplings photo supplied), and then decided that since she was vegetarian, and they had meat, she ordered something else. The waitress brought both. We pointed out that our colleague only ASKED about the zombie-brains, and then after informing the waitress she was vegetarian ordered a vegetarian meal. The waitress replied that we were wrong, because...(wait for it)... she wrote it down on the paper that we ordered it. She refused to return it. Food: My salmon came out... baked in plastic wrap (chemo-cancer-photo-attached)! They had actually grilled the salmon with left over plastic wrap on it. I again complained, and the waitress told me it was nothing, not a problem I finally asked for the manager, and pointed out the melted plastic. He brought the chef out, who showed me some salmon skewers wrapped in plastic, and said he must have forgotten to take all the plastic off. Soooooo? Yummy! To the credit of the manager, he DID replace my food with a Zander (perch fish, which was reasonably tasty, but unfortunately I'd lost my appetite and desire to stay at this place. The overall decor is a bit like an old-person's home (stale), the prices are high, the waitstaff is poor (at best), and the food is either mediocre or wrapped and baked in chemical plastic bits of love. I'd honestly never go back, nor recommend it to anyone. The only good thing I can say is that, at least, the manager comped our beers.
