Don’t come. Came to celebrate a birthday and it was wildly disappointing. I’m a vegetarian and although they had a prefix vegetarian menu I decided to skip it as most of it wasn’t something I’d want and go for individual selection on the regular menu. I did mention I don’t like feta (sheep or goat cheese) and they removed that from the appetizer (soup) but when the entree came it had feta still on it. And we were the ONLY TABLE there on a Sunday evening so there is no excuse to miss anything. I also got the mushroom appetizer. It tasted like it had a jar of miso and soy sauce poured on it (super sweet and salty). No mushroom flavor came through whatsoever. The soup was flavorless. And the worst punch of all was the prices being charged for all these incredibly misaligned dishes. Service: Dine in Food: 2 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 1
This is an absolute stand out restaurant all around. The food was superlative! We had the chef’s tasting menu and it lived up to the hype we read online. Every course was divine, and well thought out. The service was attentive, and discreet. This is a must do restaurant for any foodie while in Vienna. Our wedding anniversary is on Christmas Eve and it’s often challenging to find a restaurant that is open and offering a menu and service that hasn’t slipped owing to the holidays. It’s been hit and miss over the years, even at expensive, Michelin-starred restaurants. Fortunately, we chose well this year, and OPUS was simply magnificent. The team simply could not have created a more enjoyable experience. The room is fairly small and elegant, with barely a dozen tables. This creates the sense of intimacy and calm that I have found typical of the best restaurants. The noise level is perfect, with conversations conducted with ease. The Christmas Eve menu was a five course seasonal tasting menu with accompanying wine pairings. An amuse bouche was followed by lobster, Danube salmon, venison, a chocolate dessert, and Christmas cookies. All were wonderful, with the venison filet a particular favourite. The wines were all Austrian, and all were a pleasant surprise: light, dry, and perfectly matched to the food. The service was exceptional: attentive and friendly but not intrusive. Each course was explained, each wine introduced. I should mention that we hadn’t told OPUS it was our anniversary, but the hotel had clearly passed on the message and our Christmas cookies were discretely augmented with an Imperial torte (yum). OPUS was easily of the highlights of our stay in Vienna. The fact they managed such an experience on Christmas Eve, when so many other high-profile restaurants have stumbled, suggests exceptional attention to standards and customer service. When we return to Vienna, we will return to OPUS and the Imperial Hotel.
Gourmet food experience we thought we could be hungry if we only have a entree and small appetizer, but “Koch Komplimente” come naturally. Try everything! That's why you're here. Not a cheap evening, but worth planning as an event. Not something I do every week, but I would like to plan how it is on a trip!
