What User doesn't like about Swiss Chalet Rotisserie & Grill:
I dine a lot at Swiss Chalet in Ontario. I Thought consistency was throughout the chain. Two of us had 1/3 ribs and wings. The third had chicken and fries. While the ribs seemed tender on first cut they were so chewy I couldn't eat them. Wings were mild but sauce seemed watered down and bland. Baked potato came with sour cream and onions. I didnt ask for that. It's always on the side and I don't like onions on my pot... View all feedback.
It had been some time since my last visit to a Swiss Chalet, but my partner and I decided to visit the Victoria location because, for some reason, we had a hankering to visit, well, Swiss Chalet. I’m not sure why, but I suspect it had something to do with the fact that, for both of us, it had been a relatively extended period of time since either of us had visited this family restaurant chain. In any event, I won’t reiterate what I’ve said elsewhere about the setting of this eatery – that it is very reflective of the typical family restaurant with its various shades of brown decor and (mostly) unremarkable menu. So, that said, I will say that Swiss Chalet seems to be very popular with senior citizens. During our lunchtime visit, the restaurant was filled with a lot of “grey heads.” I guess ribs are a popular choice (they’re messy, you can pick them up and no one will give you a dirty look if you get sauce all over your face!). That was just an interesting observation my partner and I made upon being (quickly) seated. In terms of food, I ordered the 1/3 rack of ribs meal with 5 buffalo wings and side Caesar salad; my partner ordered honey buffalo wings to start and the special Canadian Summer Fest meal (roasted chicken, corn on the cob, green salad and a box of Toblerone chocolates). The honey buffalo wings were good – nice and saucy – which is just how I like them; however, the carrot sticks and celery that accompanied them looked pretty sad and dried out, as if they’d been cut up and stored days before. Thankfully, my ribs were of FAR BETTER quality than my earlier visit to Swiss Chalet. Unlike my very first visit to this franchise (the ribs were tough and chewy), these ribs were saucy and “fall off the bone” tender. These ribs were a far better representation of what Swiss Chalet is capable of. As for my side Caesar. . . well, it was OK. Some of the lettuce leaves were a bit wilted, but it was mostly good. Frankly, I’ve had better Caesar salad from Panago, but being a family restaurant, my expectations weren’t very high. My partner said her chicken was very good – juicy – but the green salad was dismal: limp, wilted vegetables which, much like the carrot sticks mentioned earlier, looked as if they’d been sitting in a refrigerator for days waiting for some poor sap to order a green salad. When the sad state of the green salad was brought to our server’s attention he did, to his credit, attempt to remedy the matter by offering alternatives (a slight discount for the mostly inedible salad would’ve been better). All things considered, though, we would probably return to Swiss Chalet. This experience was far better than my earlier one: the food was, on the whole, decently prepared. Best of all, this franchise is easy on the wallet!FOOD: 3/5SERVICE: 4/5VALUE: 3/5RECOMMENDATION: I think as long as you come to Swiss Chalet with reasonable expectations, then you should be happy. This is a family restaurant and, as such, it has to appeal to everybody.
It had been years since we ate at this Swiss Chalet but since we were blessed with a S.Ch. gift card we were looking forward to our little date.It took some time before we got our menu as our section seemed overly busy with just one waiter trying to manage the many tables. Eric, our waiter was doing his best and was apologetic for the delay. His friendly manner was a treat! As an appetizer we ordered spring rolls and for the main we chose the special; 1/4 chicken dinner. Unfortunately the spring rolls were so dry and consisted almost entirely of dry chicken meat - no veggies to be detected - and we had to send them back. Then we waited and waited until our main plates arrived while guests at the tables around us (who came later) already had their meals served. Not too much of a great deal since we were not in a hurry, we were just hungry! But then, even the 1/4 chicken was disappointing - dry and shriveled. By this time we were too hungry to send it back and wait for a nice plump and juicy piece which we had in our memory from long ago... and maybe a memory it will have to stay. Too bad!
It is just a normal restaurant. Good food, nothing special. Affordable price and good service. NO WIFI, but there are some surrounding.

I didnt ask for that. It's always on the side and I don't like onions on my potato. All three orders were wrong. Bills were wrong. Waitress was surprised my friend asked for chalet sauce when I thought this was normal with a chicken order. Waitress didnt seem To know what we ordered and confused.
